English Language Arts: No spelling test due to a four day week.

Weekly Comprehension Skill: Cause and Effect relationships

Weekly Story: Roberto Clemente pp. 150-173 Read daily.

Vocabulary Words:

1. pronounced – said the sound of

2. stands – seats with a stadium or ballpark

3. fans – great admirers

4. league – group of people or teams

5. score – make a point or points in a game

6. polish – to make shine; to make something better

7. style – a way of doing something

8. slammed – hit with sudden force

Prefixes: mis – means wrong ex. misprint – to print wrongly

Grammar:

Plural nouns with –s and –es ex. A kid plays baseball. The kids play baseball.

Math: Students will write multiplication sentences from a model.

Example XXXX XXXX XXXX 3 x 4 = 12 XX XX XX XX 4 x2 = 8

They are responsible for learning the multiplication facts 2-5. They have a multiplication fact sheet to use to study these facts.

Science: Landforms

1. Earth’s surface has many natural shapes or features called landforms.

2. Mountains are a place on Earth’s surface where the land is much higher than the land that surrounds it.

3. A mountain area that has a flat top is called a plateau.

4. Volcanoes are an opening in Earth’s surface from which lava flows.

5. A valley is an area of low land that is found between high areas such as mountains.

6. Streams and rivers flow through most valleys.

7. A canyon is a deep valley with very steep sides.

8. Canyons are often carved from the Earth by a river.

9. A cavern is a large cave or underground chamber.

10. An island is an area of land that is entirely surrounded by water.

Social Studies:

1. An explorer is a traveler who searches for new places.

2. In 1492, Christopher Columbus landed on a small island off the coast of North America.

3.European explorers went on explorations hoping to find land and riches.

4. Lucas Vazquez de Ayllon, a Spanish explorer, sailed form the West Indies to what is now South Carolina in 1526.

5. Hernando de Soto, a Spanish explorer, landed on the coast of what is now Florida in 1539.

6. De Soto and his men were the first Europeans to cross the Mississippi River.

7. In 1562, French explorer Jean Ribault reaches the North American coast.

8. Spanish explorer Juan Pardo explored the Carolinas.

9. In 1663, Captain William Hilton explored the Carolina coast.

10. Hilton Head Island was named after Captain William Hilton.
