Rules and Regulations

Students are prohibited from bringing large appliances (televisions, large radios, video games, etc.), having pets, automobiles, cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, candles, or incense on campus or in their rooms. The law prohibits gambling and the use of alcohol, drugs, firearms, and firecrackers. Students caught stealing or damaging school or others’ personal property will be expelled from the program and future PreCollege Programs. Students will be held financially responsible for any damages to university property. Use masking tape when attaching articles of any kind to residence hall walls to avoid permanent damage to the surface.

If a student chooses not to follow thecamp rules, he or she will be subjected to a disciplinary process up to and including possible expulsion from camp. This also may affect participation in future PreCollege Programs.

Housing:Wells East Hall is under the supervision of a professionally trained hall director who resides in the residence hall. The director is responsible for the overall operations and will respond immediately in cases of emergency. The PreCollege Staff will reside in the residence hall. Team Leaders will also take responsibility for the welfare and conduct of assigned students.

All PreCollege students are restricted to their own floor once in the residence halls for the night.

Curfew: All PreCollegestudents are restricted to a 10:00 p.m. curfew, which means that students must be on their respective floors by 10:00p.m. A “lights out” policy will be enforced at 10:30 p.m. This means each student must be in his/her own room from 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. All showering and bathroom activities must be finished before 10:30 p.m.

Quiet Hours: Quiet hours will be observed daily from 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. This is good preparation for college life. Students observe quiet hours in their residence halls as a courtesy to other students who need to study or sleep.

Personal Items Needed: Each student is responsible for bringing an alarm clock, bed linens, towels, pillows, iron, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, brushes, combs, quarters for laundry, etc. Although these things are necessities; students are not restricted solely to needs listed. The following is a list of additional suggested items to consider:

Locks: Students will be issued keys to their rooms upon arrival. It is the responsibility of students to keep unoccupied rooms locked at all times. Please do not share room keys with one another. The PreCollege staff and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater officials arenot held responsible for lost or stolen items.

Meals: Students will use Esker Dining Hall for all meals. Students will be served breakfast, lunch, and dinner and are required to eat all meals. There is a wide variety to choose from meeting all dietary concerns; please contact us if there are specific allergy requests. Meals will be served according to the following schedule.

Breakfast7:50 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.

Lunch12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Dinner5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Nutrition: Nutritional guidelines from the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction require the following:

Breakfast: one serving of fruit, one bread, and milk.

Lunch/Dinner: One serving meat (or; cheese, eggs, peanut butter, beans, etc.), one fruit, one vegetable, bread, and milk.

Laundry: Laundry facilities are available for residents in the basement of Wells East Hall.

Personal Hygiene: Daily showers are appreciated. Toilets must be flushed. Please use garbage cans in the restrooms.

Telephone: Mobile phones are allowed; however, they are only to be used during allotted times as given by PreCollege staff members. Students using mobile devices during class time, etc. may be given limited free activity time.

Noise Pollution: All students are required to keep respectable voice and noise levels.

Visitation: For their safety, students must receive permission from the PreCollege Administrative Staff prior to visits from community friends and other family members throughout the camp. Each student is held responsible for his or her guest(s). All guests must abide by all University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and PreCollege Programs policies as outlined. All guests must leave the dorm before 10:00p.m.

SEVERE WEATHER PROCEDURES: During a severe weather warning or tornado watch, the University directs the appropriate response. Outside activities may be canceled and movement between buildings monitored, but the general schedule is followed when possible.

SUMMER SESSION DRESS CODE

The dress code listed below will be strictly enforced at all times.

  1. No hats in the building; hats may be worn outside (provided it sits straight on your head).
  2. No gang paraphernalia.
  3. No ripped jeans or shirts.
  4. No t-shirts with inappropriate messages.
  5. No short shorts.
  6. No pants that do not fit properly (belts are to be worn to prevent pants from falling off).
  7. No iPods/music devices outside the Residence Halls.
  8. No see-through or inappropriate tops or swimsuits.

SUPPORTIVE SERVICES

Team Leader Guidelines: Team Leaders work hard and they appreciate the highest level of maturity you can demonstrate.

Please remember these simple rules:

Team Leaders may not lend you money.

Team Leaders may not repeat gossip and rumors.

Team Leaders may not break or bend rules for students.

Team Leaders may not take sides; they are not judges.

Team Leaders will report urgent health situations immediately.

Team Leaders’ privacy during off-duty time is to be respected.

Team Leaders offer support and guidance within the parameters of our program.

Team Leaders are not to act as parents or friends.

Team Leaders expect your cooperation.

Team Leaders may not date students.

Team Leaders are human.

ACADEMIC POLICIES AND DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

Each PreCollege student will be held accountable for meeting the responsibilities stipulated by the program policies.

Class Attendance: Students are required to attend all PreCollege classes. Illness is the only excused absence unless other arrangements were made before the Summer Session. In the event of an illness, the student should immediately notify one of the following Administrative Staff members: Ramon Ortiz,Executive Director, PreCollege Programs; Tiffany Adkins, Camps Director, PreCollegePrograms; Pam Warren, Associate Director, PreCollegePrograms, or your immediate Team Leader. Each student is responsible for all class work missed due to absence.

Tardiness: Students’ class schedules specify class times; therefore, excuses for tardiness are not acceptable. All students will arrive to class promptly.

Academic and Social Performance: PreCollege students are expected to be high achievers, and diligently complete assignments on time in accordance with the highest standards. Students will perform at their highest ability level in the classroom and assume leadership roles in social, cultural, and recreational activities. PreCollege Programs is geared toward college preparation. This is an intense program and through careful planning of the summer curriculum we are striving to encourage each student’s success. Enthusiasm,respect for peers, cooperation, and sportsmanship are characteristics that should always be displayed by students.

Personal Belongings and Behavior: In society, people are judged by their appearance and behavior. As a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater PreCollege Programs, your presence on campus reflects the program as well as the entire university community. Behavior, clothing, and/or belongings should not be distracting, inappropriate, or indecent.

*The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater also has strict policies on sexual harassment. Any student in violation of these policies will be immediately released from the Summer Academic Camps.

If a student chooses not to follow the above camp rules and guidelines, he or she will be subjected to a disciplinary process up to and including possible expulsion from camp. This also may affect participation in future PreCollege Programs.
