Role and Responsibilities
Provide support to the School Nurse (REGISTERED NURSE) -Div 1 as follows:
ROLE
- Work under the guidance and supervision of the School Nurse
- Supports & assist the School Nurse in assessing and managing illness, injuries and accidents of students, staff and contractors
- Provide first aid assessment and treatment of students, staff and contractors as required
- Administer medications as required within scope of practice and college’s/DET policy & procedures
- Prepare and maintains health records data as required
- Under the guidance and supervision of the School Nursegather information, collate & prepare individual student health plans, anaphylaxis & asthma action plans
- Assist with audits of student and school autoinjector devices as required
- Assist the School Nurse to maintain and restock the college first aid kits for sport days, events and camps as required
- Participate in the college’s Health Centre team meetings relating to health and safety issues of students as required
- Be proactive, assist in school student welfare initiatives and programs
- Liaise with school welfare staff where student welfare support is required
- Be professional in presentation and conduct with all members of the school community
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrate a high level of nursing knowledge and expertise
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication including appropriate computer expertise and skills
- Demonstrated high level of organizational skills and experience in managing first aid injuries & medical conditions
- Demonstrated ability to work with students, parents and staff in a professional manner always including during emergency situations
QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Current registration with AHPRA as a medication Endorsed Enrolled Nurse (EEN)
Current Provide First Aid Certificate or above
Current CPR Certificate
Current anaphylaxis and asthma certificates
Mental health experience preferable or Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate (YMHFA)
Current Victorian Police Check
Current working with children card (WCC)
Maintains and undertakes Professional Development to maintain and improve skills pertaining to school based nursing as required
