Course Syllabus for Integrated Math 1 (IM1) 2016-2017

Bellflower High School

Ms. Martin/ Mr. Garcia

Course Description

Integrated Math 1 is the first of a sequence of three high school mathematics courses from Integrated Math 1, 2, and 3. During the first semester, the course focuses on functions, algebra, and the number system. It uses functions as models of real situations and spends time predominantly on linear equations and linear inequalities. The first half also includes sequences. The second semester of the course focuses on systems of equations and inequalities and on Geometry: geometric transformations, defining and constructing geometric constructs, using rigid motions to develop proofs of congruence and other geometric properties, and using geometric shapes to model natural objects. The students will then end this semester with statistics and modeling data. Where students will summarize, represent and interpret various types of data.

In this course we will work collaboratively to:

·  Become better problem solvers

·  Increase critical thinking skills

·  Enhance numeracy

·  Gain appreciation of mathematics and its applications

·  Increase perseverance to solve math problems that seem unfamiliar

·  Work in groups to share mathematics from different perspectives

·  Improve mathematical communication skills

·  Be well-prepared to successfully continue in the Integrated Mathematics Pathway
