Supplies:
Required:
  • 3-ring binder with (at least) 3 dividers
  • Warm Ups
  • Notes
  • Homework
  • 3-hole folder (fits into binder)
  • Loose-leaf and Graph paper
  • Pencils with erasers
  • Colored pencils/highlighters
Recommended:
  • Graphing Calculator (I strongly recommend that you have your own TI-84. I have calculators available in the classrooms, but these may not be taken home.) Please contact me if you would like to check out a calculator for the year.
/ Class Rules:
Students are expected to follow all Broad Run rules and policies. In addition, I expect the following in our classroom:
  • Be present and on time
  • Be prepared with materials and assignments
  • Be on task
  • Be honest and respectful of others and the property of others
  • Do not wear hats or earbuds to class
  • Follow my Electronic Devices policy

Consequences for inappropriate behaviors will include warning, removal of privileges (such as grade replacement or group quiz), parent contact, and administration involvement

Electronic Devices:
I will often incorporate technology into our lessons and students are encouraged to bring their devices to class daily*. When we are not actively using technology, students are expected to “sentence” their cell phones to Cell Phone Jail by parking their devices in the designated holder. 
Students will have the opportunity to earn bonus points by checking their devices and cooperating with my cell phone policy.
*Students who do not have access to personal electronic devices should discuss this with the teacher and I will work to accommodate them. / Textbook:
Students will have access to a classroom set of Advanced Functions textbooks during class. I will not distribute individual textbooks unless specifically requested. Textbooks will only be used as a supplemental resource (not for homework assignments.)
Grading Policy:
Grades are calculated by a point system. In general:
  • Quizzes (~20 points each)
  • Unit Tests (~100 points each)
  • Group Quizzes (~20 points each)
  • Problem Sets (~40 points each)
  • Assigned at the end of each quarter.
  • These tests will be comprised of questions similar to the note examples, homework/classwork questions, problem sets and quizzes from the quarter.
  • Quarter Test (~100 points each)
  • Classwork/Projects – varies
  • Homework – 0 to 4 points (average of all unit assignments) added to unit test
  • Late homework will not be accepted. If a student is absent, he/she is expected to turn in homework the following class.

Remediation Policy:
I will not be offering test or quiz retakes this year. Instead, students will have the opportunity to improve their class grades with options such as:
  • Group Quiz
  • Assigned the class after the unit test
  • You must have completed the original test and be present the day of the group quiz to take advantage of this opportunity.
  • Grade Replacement
  • Students may have the chance to replace a grade once they have demonstrated mastery on a broader assessment. (e.g., a higher unit test score might replace a quiz grade, a higher quarter test score might replace a unit test grade.)
Note that these opportunities are considered priveleges and will be offered at the teacher’s discretion. Students must be in good standing regarding homework completion and class behavior.
Extra Help Opportunities:
There are several options for extra math help at Broad Run:
  • I am generally available in the mornings between 8:15 and 8:45 in room 123. Students are encouraged to communicate with me by email or Remind texts when planning to come in for extra help.
  • Math Lab - each block in Room 177. Teachers and student tutors will be available to help.
/ Communication
  • Email Ms. Wiggins at:
  • Remind (see handout)
  • Used to communicate class announcements and reminders.
  • Class website
  • This is the ultimate resource for what’s going on in class. I post all notes and assignments after each class. PLEASE visit often and especially when you are absent!

These policies are subject to change at the teacher’s discretion.
