I.  President’s Report

a.  In Memory of Robert Alston (Memorial Service Sat., November 23, 3PM). Please take a moment to reflect on the memory of Robert a long time TCNJ colleague. Dionne mentioned the scholarship fund setup in Robert’s memory.

b.  Pete Manetas farewell. Pete will be leaving TCNJ for a new employment opportunity. We wish him well.

II.  Old Business

A.  Search Committee Updates – Dean of Nursing, Health and Exercise Science – Nino

a.  Open forum for Dr. McGinley: Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11:00am in Paul Loser Hall 106.

b.  Open forum for Dr. Muller: Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 3:00pm in Business Building 123.

c.  Open forum for Dr. Kenner: Wednesday, December 11,2013 – TBA.

B.  Staff Senate Council and Governance Openings – Matt

Opening on CSCC committee.

C.  Helen Shaw Staff Excellence and Achievement Award

Openings on committee. 3 members have left the committee. Two AFT and one non-unit. Need to serve 2

consecutive 3 year terms. Contact Matthew or Karen if you are interested.

D.  Scheduling Grid Update

New grid created to effectively utilize classroom space, more time for instruction, meeting time for groups (campus wide events) and providing more time for student dining. Will take effect fall 2014.

IV. New Business / Announcements

A. Guest Presenter – Tarika Mahal, Bonner Center Environment Team

Presentation on TCNJ recycling program. For specific information, visit http://recycling.pages.tcnj.edu/

Question session followed presentation. Team members will bring back concerns regarding the mixing of

trash by building service personnel. The addition of a contact form was also suggested.

B. Update – Signature Experiences Proposal

Final list of 5 experiences are complete. Process was to identify what we do best and what we aspire to be. Experiences will be focus/priority of budget process.

C. Vote on Need for December 18th Meeting

Staff Senate voted not to have a December 18th meeting. Next meeting will be January 15th.

D. Terence Bennett (Liberal Learning Assessment) and John Donohue (College Seal) scheduled for

January 15th meeting.

E. Meeting Dates for Spring 2014 are Jan 15, Feb 19, March 19, April 16, May 21.

January 29 is the celebration of governance awards. Please try to attend.

V. Reports

Staff Senate Councils

Elections and Constitution Council (ECC) – Matt

·  One opening on CSCC is available. Contact Matt or Karen if interested in serving. Carol, Janice and Spence are also available to contact regarding committee.

Staff Development and Recognition Council (SDRC) - Joe

·  Working on Employee newsletter.

·  Working on council mission statement.

·  Meeting next week.

Special Events and Community Building Council (SECBC) – Devon

·  Some programs like holiday cards for military, coat drive (boxes will be place in select buildings), Habitat for Humanity, social mixer and basketball game are planned. Cards being passed around need to be filled out and will be collected at the end of the meeting.

Communications and Public Relations Council (CPRC) – Sharon

·  Newsletter is still awaiting summary reports before it can be printed. Please send your reports to or fill out the online form.

·  HR has been sending monthly new employee lists and our Welcome Letter will be going out more often.

·  Website design is on-going.

Helen Shaw Staff Excellence Award (HSSEA) - Joe

·  Looking for new members.

College Governance Committees:

Committee on Academic Programs (CAP) – Pat

Pat updated the Senate on the following:

·  Retention of Student Work. Faculty are expected to keep (electronic submission) final work. If a student appeals their final grade the work must be kept through the appeals period. Pat will clarify the role of adjuncts in this policy.

·  Ungraded Option is pending approval.

·  CAP is returning FSP domain; did not agree to approve this. Task force has been recommended.

Committee for Planning and Priorities (CPP) – Nino

·  Academic Schedule Grid.

·  Winter term and spring scheduling modification.

Committee for Student and Campus Community (CSCC) – Carol

·  Alcohol Policy will be sent out via a Qualtrics form first week in December.

·  Protection of Children Policy –final recommendation to Steering by first week in December.

·  Sudent Rights and Freedoms Policy –final recommendation to Steering by first week in December.

·  Student Conduct Code - awaiting changes from Angela Chong.

·  Undergraduate Certificate – CSCC will be removed from this charge.
