PCSO Matt Woodman

The meeting opened and all present identified themselves. Apologies for absences were given and recorded.
The Youth PACT is now advertised on the school TV system and a tannoy has message has gone out. The Youth PACT minutes are also now on the website.
The priorities outlined previously were read out. Priority 1, the new park, was discussed and the possibility of intelligent lighting system is being looked at by the Vale Councillors.
PC Woodman said he would chase up the Councillors about the lighting.
Priority 3 regarding the roadworks is no longer an issue as they have ceased.
The lack of facilities in St Athan were brought up. A free disco has been set up on the 12th December with transport arranged. The Hive in St Athan is mainly used for younger children but we will look into the possibility of an over 13’s activity for the future.
It was asked if a skate park could be provided in the St Athan area.
It is being looked into and there has been a consultation with regards to its location etc
The following was brought up by the pupils at the meeting
The state of lighting in general in Llantwit Major was brought up, and the fact that the lanes are overhung with trees, making it dangerous to cut through.
The youths are told by shop staff they are not to go into the shops. A small number of people spoil it for others. It is felt that there is no gang culture in Llantwit and yet they are being treated in that way.
The pupils decided that in place of the previous Priority 3 (roadworks), they would like Youth Respect to now be their third priority.
Perhaps someone could go to the Chamber of Trade meeting to represent the youths
Now the lunch times are split, there is not much need to go out of the school during that period of time
A letter from the Youth Council could be sent to the Gem giving them your point of view
A letter will be put together and request that it is looked at prior to submission to the Gem
The Adult PACT newsletter will include the Youth PACT items and a Youth PACT section on the website which can have links or items added
A suggestion of a competition for a Youth PACT logo was put forward and the pupils discussed whether to keep it amongst themselves, or include other Youth PACTs around the Vale. It was considered a good idea for it to be a Vale wide competition with a prize for the winning logo. This is to be discussed further for arrangements to be made between all areas in the Vale
The Priorities were summed up as follows:
  1. New Park in Rugby Club field. i.e. safety of young children being hurt possibility of warning sign, fence and gate. Also a lighting timer.
  2. Lack of facilities for young people in St Athan area and lack of transport to activities.
  3. Youth Respect. To include advertising of good things done by youths in the area.
