Using Multi-methods in Social Sciences

EUROQUAL as part of the ESF (European Science Foundation) is a four year programme with the aim of enhancing qualitative methods in Social Sciences. The forthcoming workshop concentrates on the need to triangulate different methods and to develop new methodological approaches. To answer social problems the challenge will be to cooperate and to coordinate the strategies of different epistemological cultures in research designs.

Workshop Topics include:

·  New ways of combining qualitative and quantitative methods in research designs

·  Combining different qualitative methods, especially verbal and non-verbal methods

·  Possibilities of combining methods from different epistemological cultures

·  Experiences of financing organisations (funds) with applied research designs

Our speakers include amongst others: Paul Atkinson, Julia Brannan, Sue Duncan, Herbert Gottweis, Josef Hochgerner, Sylvia Kritzinger, Philipp Mayring, Peter Rieker, John Rose and Helmut Willems, who are experts in these fields and will discuss problems and new strategies on the key themes. The Call for Papers addresses

senior researchers in the Social Sciences, who are experienced in multi-method designs and are interested in new innovations and methods. Travel and accommodation will be covered by the organisers

The Call for Participation addresses

students on a PhD/Dr. level preparing or working with multi-method designs and are interested in participating at the workshop including a one-day training session in which they will have the opportunity to receive comments on their research design from well known experts in the field. Travel and accommodation will be covered by the organisers.
