14. A synopsis of the curriculum

The dissertation will be written in a manner appropriate to the subject and method, to publishable standard, and the student will be expected to produce a report for publication based on the research undertaken. The final writing up will be undertaken in collaboration with the supervisor(s), and in discussion with the

16. Learning and Teaching Methods, including the nature and number of contact hours and the total study hours which will be expected of students, and how these relate to achievement of the intended learning outcomes

The module consists of self-directed learning, supported by participation in a research group, in which you will have the opportunity to share your developing research with other students and a tutor; and individual supervision, who will provide close support for the writing up process. (LO1 Ability to communicate your findings to a variety of audiences, including the research community and the clinical community, with reference to ethical practice) Students will continue to meet with their research group during the writing up period (3x 3 hour sessions), and meet with their supervisor, normally for 8 – 10 hours. Students will have the opportunity to present their findings to the research week seminars (LO5 Ability to translate findings into a variety of presentation forms, using IT packages as appropriate) and will have the opportunity to access support in the use of IT packages, and statistical support, as appropriate to their project (10 – 15 hours). The student should expect to spend an additional 270 hours in the process of writing the dissertation and preparing additional presentational materials.

17. Assessment methods and how these relate to testing achievement of the intended learning outcomes

Assessment is by dissertation of 30 – 45,000 words, depending on the subject and method (100%) The student will be subject to a viva voce examination by an external and internal examiner. (all LO’s)

18. Implications for learning resources, including staff, library, IT and space

The module will be supported by on-line resources, and supplemented workshops which will be scheduled during the course of each year where space permits, on any of the campuses. The workshops will support on-line learning, undertaken by students using home or workplace IT resources as appropriate. Students will have access to both NHS and Templeman library resources, which are already well supplied. Teaching and supervision will be provided by University of Kent staff.

All teaching provision will conform with University of Kent and NHS equal opportunities statements, with no disadvantage anticipated. However, because of the focus on personal interaction in the clinical setting, you will not be able to enter this programme if you suffer from severe and enduring hearing loss.
