Title: Journey Lineworker

Purpose for the Position

Perform construction, maintenance and repair of Holy Cross Energy’s (HCE) electrical system. Work is frequently performed in close proximity to high voltage conductors and equipment requiring expertise and safe work practices and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Construct underground and overhead transmission and distribution lines which includes digging pole and anchor holes, framing poles, setting poles and anchors, stringing and sagging conductor, installing armor rod, down guys, pad-mounted equipment; and related tasks of new construction on energized and de-energized lines.

Maintain and repair overhead and underground distribution and transmission electric lines and equipment by installing or replacing transformers, breakers, regulators, conductor, insulators, poles, crossarms, conduit, meter loops, switchgear and related equipment on energized and de-energized lines.

Execute work order assignments, interpret staking sheets, complete material tickets, job briefings and field and inspection reports.

Perform various duties associated to consumer’s secondary service including reading meters, service upgrades, trouble shooting outages and voltage testing.

Perform related duties including taking inventory, accounting for materials used, loading and unloading materials, inspecting distribution and transmission facilities.

Communicate effectively with consumers, contractors and electricians regarding HCE Meter Specifications and procedures.

Work effectively with consumers to collect delinquent payments.

Participate in job training and safety meetings.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and must have passed Holy Cross Journeyman Certification and Mesa Hotline School Journeyman certification.

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by Holy Cross Energy may be substituted for the requirements above.

Abilities and Skills

Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook. Know, understand and apply all OSHA and HCE regulations and safety rules including the latest version of the statewide safety manual. Must possess first aid and CPR certification. Must know how communicate effectively while using a two-way radio.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Colorado Class A Commercial Driver's License.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock/contact; work with explosives and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
