Whereas, Edwin Mook was born in Metuchen, New Jersey on February 3, 1907, the third child of Milton Campbell Mook and Mabel Kent Mook, and

Whereas, he learned to drive at the age of 12, and was known for driving his father to the train station, and

Whereas, as an adult, he joined his father’s mail addressing business in Grand Central Station in New York City, and

Whereas, Edwin Mook served his community as a Metuchen councilman, and on the board of directors of both the Metuchen Building and Loan, now known as Metuchen Savings Bank, and the Metuchen YMCA, and

Whereas, at the young age of 20, Edwin Mook became a faithful brother of the Masonic movement, and is about to achieve his 80th year of membership as a Mason, and

Whereas, in 1933, Edwin Mook married Elberta Schenck of New Brunswick, New Jersey, and they had three children, named Edwin Junior, James Wesley, and Joanne, and

Whereas, in 1944, the young Mook family moved from Metuchen, New Jersey long before it became fashionable to move from an urban area to a rural area, and relocated in Cambridge, New York in order that Edwin Mook could become a dairy farmer, and

Whereas, upon retirement, the Mooks spent summers in Cambridge at Lake Lauderdale, and the remainder of the year in Florida, and

Whereas, through the past 100 years, Edwin Mook has seen many technological transformations such as the switch from horse-drawn farm vehicles to air-conditioned tractors with computers, the change from milking by hand to milking parlors, the introduction of genetic engineering, the advancement in communications from crank telephones to cell telephones, and the passing of an era of gaslight farmhouses to one in which bio-energy can serve as a power source, and

Whereas, Edwin Mook has witnessed the evolution of the automobile, the advent of the computer, and the birth of television, and

Whereas, Edwin and Elberta Mook had nine grandchildren, including Michael, Linda, Charlene, Haley, Matt, Jonathan, S Rodman, F Robert, and Rebeka, and 13 great-grandchildren: Campbell, Camilla, Corinne, Duncan, Gillian, Will, Kelby, Taylor, Madison, Cody, Schuyler, Anna, and Hailey and

Whereas, Edwin Mook continues to live independently and remains in good health, and,

Whereas, on February 3, 2007, Edwin Mook and his family will gather to celebrate a momentous occasion, his 100th birthday, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates Edwin Telfer Mook on his 100th birthday, and extends best wishes for continued good health on this special occasion, and be it further

Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Edwin Mook of North Bennington.
