Selected Examples - Pay careful attention to punctuation, case (upper v. lower), and italics, which are underlined below for clarity.

Periodical:

Author, A. A., Author, B. B., & Author, C. C. (1994). Title of article. Title of Periodical, xx, xxx-xxx.

Periodicals include items published on a regular basis: journals, magazines, scholarly newsletters, and so on. For magazines, newsletters, and newspapers, give the year followed by the exact date on the publication (month or month and day – e.g., (1994, December)

Nonperiodical: (book)

Author, A. A. (1994). Title of work. Location: Publisher.

Part of a nonperiodical (e.g., book chapter)

Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (1994). Title of chapter. In A. Editor, B. Editor, & C. Editor (Eds.), Title of book (pp. xxx-xxx). Location: Publisher.

Nonperiodicals include items published separately: books, reports, brochures, certain monographs, manuals, and audiovisual media.

Unpublished paper presented at a meeting:

Author, A. A., & Author B. B. (1991, January). Title of Paper. Presented at the meeting of Such and Such, Missoula, MT.

Online periodical: if viewed only in its electronic form

Author, A. A., Author, B. B., & Author, C. C. (2000). Title of article. [Electronic version]. Title of Periodical, xx, xxx-xxx.

Online periodical: if you have reason to believe electron version may differ from print version

Author, A. A., Author, B. B., & Author, C. C. (2000). Title of article. Title of Periodical, xx, xxx-xxx. Retrieved Month, day, year, from

Internet-only journal:
