National CTE Student Innovator Recognitions

Purpose
The National CTE Student Innovator Recognitions acknowledge students that exhibit excellence, dedication, leadership, and innovation within the field of career and technical education (CTE), as well as within their respective CTSOs if applicable.

Eligibility
CTE students age 16 or over enrolled in secondary or postsecondary school.

Criteria
The nominees will be evaluated on the following criteria:

•  Work that indicates a high level of accomplishment in the field of Career and Technical Education. Accomplishments may include everything from high grades to completion of innovative individual and group projects related to CTE. Work may include projects completed both inside and outside the classroom.

•  Involvement with co-curricular CTE opportunities, including CTE-related leadership activities within schools, communities, and CTSO organizations.

Submissions will be reviewed without identifying information (including the candidate’s name, school and hometown) by a panel of independent judges. The submissions will be scored according to the following rubric:

Submission Requirements

Submissions for this recognition must include the items below (incomplete submission will not be considered):

1.  Completed submission form with all pertinent contact information

2.  Initial submission letter, to include the following:

a.  A brief overview of the candidate (i.e. short biography/background information)

b.  A brief summary of the candidate’s qualifications for this recognition

(Note: this initial letter should not exceed 350 words in length.)

3.  Support information: Please write a brief written explanation of the candidate’s qualifications, including the following:

a.  Accomplishments/innovations both inside and outside the classroom, in the field of career and technical education, that exhibit the quality of the candidate

b.  Narrative information detailing the candidate’s involvement with co-curricular CTE opportunities, including CTSOs and other leadership opportunities

(Note: support should not exceed 1200 words in length.)

4.  Signatures

Submission must also contain:

a.  A signature from an educator of the student, such as a teacher or adviser in a relevant subject or school principal or superintendent. Signature must certify that student has represented their work and credentials for this recognition accurately.

b.  A signature from a parent or guardian, if the student is under 18, acknowledging that the student has permission to submit the application which contains identifying information such as date of birth, home address, and social security number.

c.  A signed media release form (by student or by parent or guardian if the student is under 18.) Form is attached to this application.

Candidates should submit their information to ACTE by no later than January 12th, 2015. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Submissions may be e-mailed to Kevin Oshinskie () or faxed to 703-683-7424.

Selected individuals permit ACTE, members of the National Coordinating Council of CTSOs and the United States Department of Education to use and edit content of the submission for promotional activities.

Note: Sponsoring organizations of successful candidates will be responsible for any and all associated travel costs to CTE Innovator events, including airfare, hotel and meals. Candidates that do not provide a sponsoring organization will be personally responsible for any costs associated with their travel arrangements. We reserve the right to select a new candidate should a previously selected winner be unable to attend associated events for any reason, including costs.
