This is a training expedition for the OAL Adventure camping stream. Priority will be given to ladies who have completed some of the OAL Adventure training modules and are working on the expedition module. It is not recommended for beginners.

Ladies who have completed the expedition module or experienced backpackers are welcome to submit registrations. If we have room, spaces on the trip will be allocated to ladies who have taken the OAL program and then to experienced backpackers. All groups will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

How to register.

Because this is a training expedition, you need to complete a self assessment of your adventure camping skills. Have a look at the OAL Guide to Adventure Camping and use it and the skills checklist to write a description of your strengths and what you need to work on as you develop adventure camping skills. This is 2a on the skills checklist. If you have done one before, I think it would be a benefit to do it again and see how far you have come. The other piece from the skills checklist you are asked to submit with your registration is a description of your fitness plan, skill 1d. How are you preparing your body for this trip?

Submit your registration form, Adult Health form, a trip log if you have done some previous adventure camping along with your self assessment, fitness plan and registration fee. Ensure that the person you name on your health form as a contact, will be available during our trip and your travel time to the starting point. This will be our home contact for you.

Registration is to be sent to provincial office as described on the registration form. Please copy me, , if you send an email. If you send a fax or by mail, I would appreciate an email to let me know and I would like to have you email me all the forms you are able to when you submit your complete registration and fees. First come first served will be based on receipt of fees in the office.

What to expect.

This is a glorious high alpine hike that will take us over 3 passes and past many alpine lakes. We will be backpacking 13 to 14 kilometers on days one, three and four with a day hike around Egypt, Scarab and Mummy Lakes on day two. Elevation gains will be moderate with some steep sections. To join us for this hike, you will need to be in good physical condition and mentally prepared to take on a challenge.

A bonus on this trip is the opportunity to stop at Shadow Lake Lodge for tea on day three. This will cost you an extra $15 but may at least in part replace your supper for that day.

At the registration deadline, I will assign patrol groups to work on menu planning and equipment acquisition for your group. Your group will be responsible for the costs of the food they plan and the equipment they rent. The information you provide to me about what equipment you have available to share will help me set up patrol groups. I will send out more information on what is needed with the group assignments. You will be responsible for your own backpack.

If you have questions, please feel free to ask me by email or phone at 403-783-3618 or Laurie McIntosh or 403-242-0047. Joan
