Introduction

Following a scoring exercise, carried out with the help of Kevin Farrell, our TPAS Consultant and Mentor, the topic: The Installation of New Double-Glazed Doors and Windows, achieved a high score and the RLSP members decided to use this for their next Scrutiny Project as members had not been involved in scoring the original contract.

Scope of Topic

It was decided to keep this within narrow parameters and:

  • Only enquire about the doors and windows because some residents were also getting new radiators and boilers
  • To conduct enquiries with residents who had only recently had the new doors and windows installed.

The members therefore chose properties in Hebrides and Faroes Closes where the new doors and windows were installed in January 2016.

Methodology

The members asked Katie Burton, our Coordinator, to obtain details of Residents in each Close who would be willing to be interviewed, either by home visit or telephone call and the RLSP devised a questionnaire, consisting of 7 pertinent questions, which was agreed with Katie Burton and Kevin Farrell.

Reality Checking

This was carried out by 2 teams of members on 27th and 28th June 2016. The home visits team, consisting of a female and male RLSP member conducted 5 home visits across the 2 dates and the other team conducted 5 telephone call interviews on 27th June 2016, using the agreed questionnaire.

Altogether 11 Residents agreed to be interviewed but 1 was not available until after this report was compiled.

Findings

Of the 10 Residents who answered the questionnaire all stated that their homes felt warmer after the installation, 9 of them stating that they were really satisfied with their new doors and windows and 1 was fairly satisfied.

The comments made by Residents in their own words, on the questionnaires, have been appended to this report.

Conclusion

The overall impression gained by Panel Members, both during the home visits and also the telephone interviews, was that a few problems were caused by 1 installation team who tended to arrive late and leave early and another team who arrived late and according to the Resident dawdled about smoking outside and then left late in the day.

However 90% of the Residents questioned were really satisfied with their new doors and windows and all 10 of them were happy for RLSP members to interview them again in a review of the topic in June 2017.
