Study Abroad Office Internship Program

The Study Abroad Office offers a 3-credit, semester-long internship program for students who are interested in sharing their international experience with peers, learning about study abroad as an industry and gaining professional experience in the workplace.

Requirements:

·  Previous study abroad experience

·  3.0 QPA or higher

·  Juniors and Seniors in any academic major

·  University of Pittsburgh, Main Campus student

·  Ability to devote 8-10 hours weekly

Responsibilities

Interns are vital members of the Study Abroad team and contribute largely to the daily operations of the office. The responsibilities of each intern are, in order of importance;

1. Contribute to the daily processes of the Study Abroad Office

Interns will be responsible for processing important documents handed in by students, obtaining a basic understanding of the Studio Abroad system and for completing any other necessary tasks given to them by various members of the Study Abroad team.

2. Peer Advising

Interns will work directly with students to help them achieve their study abroad goals by sharing personal experiences, explaining our different program options and aiding them throughout the application process.

3. Special Projects

Each Intern will be given a personal project that they will work on throughout the duration of the term. Examples of these projects include:

·  Traveling Times: The Traveling Times is a Study Abroad Office produced online magazine that gets sent out to Pitt students who are abroad Bi-Weekly/Monthly. The Intern tasked with this project will be responsible for writing fun and engaging articles and getting the magazine distributed on a consistent basis.

·  Study Abroad Blog: This Intern will be responsible for creating and implementing an online blog from student submissions.

·  Social Media & Marketing: This Intern will be responsible for the upkeep of social media sites for the office such as Facebook and Twitter. They will also work on various promotional marketing projects like creating flyers, bulletin boards and distributing materials.

·  Special Events (Fall Term Only): The Special Events Intern will only be a project during Fall term. This Intern will assist the Resource Area Coordinator and other members of the Study Abroad team in planning and organizing events during International Week.

Workshops

A unique component to the Study Abroad Office Internship Program is the various workshops that will be held throughout the term. These workshops will give you the opportunity to meet and talk with the Directors of the Study Abroad Office and learn about study abroad as an industry. Examples of possible topics for workshops include:

·  Peer Advising

·  How to Build a Program

·  Crisis Management

·  Career Development
