Chair Reappointed to The State Hospitals Board for Scotland

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sporttoday announced the reappointment of Terry Currie as Chair of the State Hospitals Board.

CHAIR

Terry Curriespent much of his early career with British Steel Corporation at Ravenscraig. The latter phase was spent in Economic Development primarily with Scottish Enterprise. He spent eight years as a Non-Executive with NHS Lanarkshire prior to taking up his appointment as Chair of The State Hospitals Board for Scotland. He is a graduate of the University of Stirling and holds a Master of Science degree. He is a strong leader with a wealth of experience in managing change.

REAPPOINTMENT

This reappointment will be for 2 years and will run from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2019.

This reappointment is regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

REMUNERATION

This reappointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £25,462 per annum for a time commitment of 3 days per week.

OTHER MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENTS

Mr Currie does not hold any other public appointments.

POLITICAL ACTIVITY

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

Mr Currie has had no political activity in the last fiveyears.

BACKGROUND

The State Hospitals is one of four high secure hospitals in the UK. It is a national resource providing care and treatment in conditions of high security for around 140 patients from Scotland and Northern Ireland who need to be detained in hospital under conditions of special security that can only be provided by the State Hospital.
