MEGA EAST/WEST STUDENT COUNCIL ADVISORS’ MEETING
The meeting was held at Dearborn Hills Golf Club on September 13, 2007. Called to order at 9:15 am.
East Members present: Allen Park, Annapolis, Dearborn High, Fordson, Lincoln Park, Robichaud, Southgate Anderson, Taylor Kennedy, Trenton and Wyandotte Roosevelt
Members absent: Highland Park, Ecorse, River Rouge, Woodhaven, Carlson
Discussion Items:
December 11 – Principals meeting at Dearborn Hills. It is requested that the student council advisors be represented at the meeting to discuss our meetings, activities, offices, etc. Theresa Kassuba will be our representative for the East.
Treasurer this year is Thurston. Receipts should be submitted for up to $250 for mega meeting costs. President is Monroe and Secretary is Ecorse.
Website – It is up and running. We should all share it with our principals. It will be kept current with agendas and minutes. The 06-07 year is archived on the site. Send any information for the website to Theresa Kassuba.
Mega East contact list will be updated and sent to our members and posted on the website. Lindsey Hamilton is the only advisor from Carlson. Mary Gass is the advisor at Fordson. Erica Bailey is the co-advisor at Southgate.
Calendar:
October 30 – Mega meeting at Lincoln Park starting at 8:30 am. Making crowns for Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. Three or four students from each school and lunch will be provided.
November 14 – Mega East/West Meeting at WCCC Belleville. 10 students per school. Final details will be sent later but activities will include: Thanksgiving baskets for Ryan’s Friends, blankets for Children’s Hospital and messages for the troops.
December 12 – Mega meeting at Allen Park with 4 students
January 24-25 – MASC Advisors Conference at Soaring Eagle. Information at michiganprincipals.org
January 30 - Mega meeting at Carlson with 4 students
February 27 – Mega meeting at Robichaud with 4 students
March 7 – MASC Regionals at Schoolcraft College in Garden City
April 5-7 – MASC State Conference for students at Grand Traverse Resort. Lincoln Park may have room to share a bus.
April 24 – Mega meeting at Annapolis with 4 students. This is the CJ Barrymore registration deadline. All schools should bring their pop can tabs to this meeting.
May 13 – CJ Barrymore’s End of the Year trip with 10 students (paid by mega). Additional students may attend at a cost of $14 each. Try to share busses. Jennifer Reaume is the contact.
May 21 (tentative) – East/West Advisors at Dearborn Hills 9:00
Homecoming and Spirit Week – Shared theme ideas. Discussion of sharing decorations.
Keep a photo history of the year and it can be displayed on the website and Don Bolinski or Steve Ellis can create a video. Make sure students have signed a photo release form.
Voting software for elections/court. Lincoln Park purchased the software presented at the MASC conference. It works well, scheduling computer time is the difficult part.
