Explanatory notes

1Sport teams include both individual and team sports; team officials include coaches, managers, and medical, support and administrative personnel. A team may be one individual or a group of individuals.

2Legislation and regulations relevant to this unit standard include Human Rights Act, 1993; New Zealand Bill of Rights Act, 1992.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Develop criteria for the selection of team selectors, team officials, and team members.

Evidence requirements

1.1Selection objectives are established and documented according to the requirements of the sport club or organisation.

1.2Selection criteria are developed and are consistent with documented objectives.

1.3Selection criteria are documented and publicised according to the requirements of the sport club or organisation.

Rangeselection criteria include – past, current, and potential future performance, experience, skill, technical ability, personal profile, availability, physical attributes, assessment of level of opposition, needs of the team.

Outcome 2

Determine the rights of individuals within the sport selection process.

Evidence requirements

2.1Laws are identified relating to the rights of individuals.

RangeHuman Rights Act, Bill of Rights Act, code of conduct of the sport, official documents within the sport as they relate to competitors.

2.2Interpretations of the laws are explained in terms of their application to the sport selection process.

Outcome 3

Develop policies for the appointment of team selectors, team officials, and team members.

Evidence requirements

3.1Selection procedures are developed to meet the requirements of the sport club or organisation.

Rangeprocedures include timeframes, procedure for notification of selections, appeals grounds and procedures.

3.2Contractual obligations are specified for selected individuals according to the requirements of the sport club or organisation.

3.3Selection policies are developed and publicised according to the requirements of the sport club or organisation.

3.4Selection procedures maintain the rights of individuals within the selection process and comply with the identified laws.
