SUMMARY OF MAIN FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Paediatric Anaesthesiologist will be responsible for all aspects of patient care within the unit and will work to support the Head of the Clinical Unit to ensure the unit delivers world class, child and family centred care to all NMCH patients.
LIST OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·  Function in line with all policies, programmes and initiatives in order to support the NMCH’s vision, mission and values
·  Act as a role model through strong relationships and accessibility, and through effective intra- and inter -unit communication
·  Be actively involved in and support an innovative and diverse academic programme, both undergraduate and postgraduate, and work to ensure to the strengthening of the integration of care, education and research within the unit, NMCH and beyond
·  Accept clinical and supervisory responsibilities appropriate for a Specialist.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
·  Current registration with HPCSA as a Specialist Anaesthetist for 3 years
·  A proven research record, preferably in paediatric anaesthesia, will be an advantage
·  A teaching portfolio with evidence of formal and informal undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is required
·  Experience in paediatric critical care and pain management will be an advantage
·  Specialised anaesthetic skills such as craniofacial, regional, transplant, neonatal and paediatric oncology will be an advantage.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
·  An indication of the scope of the specialist’s current practice may be requested
·  The applicant should have up to date resuscitation experience and certification.
