Current and Future Research Interests

I am currently exploring the relationship between politicians, the press and the general public in Edwardian Britain through paralleled analysis of news language and private political correspondence. I am especially interested in the language of politics in the popular press, and how the political establishment reacted to this press’s emergence. I would ideally like to make an impact on current approaches and understanding of politics and popular media in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Britain by elevating popular newspapers to their deserved place as vital components of British political and popular culture.
