Term 1 Week 4 17th February 2017

Regional Director and Assistant Regional Director Visit

Yesterday our Regional Director, Mrs Leeanne Wright and Assistant Regional Director, Mr Don Grobe visited our wonderful school. During this visit they informally met with a number of students and staff. Their observations were very positive about our grounds, the positive classroom learning environment, the students’ engagement and interactions with their teachers, the students’ academic results and the work our leadership team is doing to ensure Learning, Achieving and Growing every day occurs for all. Congratulations to everyone.

School Priorities for 2017

This year our school will be focusing on the following three areas as our school undertakes a priority school review in Term 2, 2017:

School Priorities for 2017
1.  Writing: Every student to achieve a C or better in writing by the end of Semester 1 2017.
2.  School Culture: Improve our school culture with a focus on school/staff morale.
3.  School Culture: Inclusive Education: Support the development of a model of inclusion that ensures every child succeeds.

Specific strategies and frameworks are currently being introduced and constructed to ensure success for all. We will continue to keep our school community informed of our progress with our priorities throughout the year.

Staff Update

This week we began a nation-wide search for a replacement teacher for our Year 2/3 class. This position will hopefully be filled by March the 3rd in readiness to begin on March the 6th. We again thank Mrs Julie Atkinson who has agreed to continue to be the students’ teacher until the position is filled.

Parking

To support student and community safety the staff have designated car parks. These designated car parks are designed to reduce the strain on the parking for our families around our school. They are not for families to park in and are not walkways for students and families. We are only concerned about the safety of your children, and request that families cease dropping their students off in the designated staff car parks.

Looking forward to sharing a wonderful welcome to Rangeville Movie night with our community next Friday. Please remember that RSVP’s are due next Wednesday the 20th of February.

Have a great weekend everyone

Thanks, Ben.

Australian National Curriculum: Health and PE (HPE)

Between 2017 and 2020, state schools in Queensland will continue to gradually move away from the Queensland curriculum and implement the remaining learning areas of the Australian National Curriculum. This year at Rangeville we will implement HPE.

Parents can view the HPE National Curriculum at

http://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/health-and-physical-education/curriculum/f-10?layout=1

We will be using C2C Health units as a resource in putting together our Health units, just as we have with other national curriculum areas.

The ‘You Can Do It’ Program

Our HPE program will be supplemented by the ‘You Can Do It’ program which we have delivered for a number of years across Prep to Year 6.

The core purpose of the program is the development of young people’s social and emotional capabilities. These capabilities are taught through the ‘5 Keys to Success’:

1. Confidence (social and academic)

2. Getting along

3. Persistence

4. Resilience and

5 Organisation

Our early years students meet five characters to help them learn strategies; Connie Confidence, Gabby Get-along, Ricky Resilience, Pete Persistence and Oscar Organisation. As our students progress with the program in the middle and upper years, these convert to ‘Keys to Success’.

As explained by Ben in a previous 2016 newsletter, the ‘Safe Schools’ program is not a part of our Rangeville Health program.

Library News

On Wednesday the 22nd of February we are having our 2017 Author Visit. This year Aleesah Darlison is our visiting authorand she has written over 20 books suitable for young children through to teenagers. She is an engaging speaker and will run 3 large group presentations for students as well as a writing workshop in the afternoon for students in years 4 - 6. The cost is $5 per child. Children who wish to participate in the writing workshop will need to sign up at the library. Numbers are limited to 30 and there is no extra cost. We are looking forward to it and some of her books are in the library for everyone to read. To celebrate this event next week we will be making unicorn hats to wear during the talks as one of Aleesah's series is called the Unicorn Riders.
