COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTING

Sophomores

All LHSSophomores will take the PLAN – a practice ACT – on December 8-9. The PLAN consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science reasoning, as well as a career inventory.

Sophomores may take the PSAT for practice if they wish. The PSAT is a practice SAT, and will be given on Wednesday October 14. The PSAT consists of tests in English, mathematics and writing. The cost is $14.00. Checks should be payable to LHS, and should be given to Mrs. Gardner in Guidance from Sept. 21-Oct. 2. We cannot guarantee a test for anyone who registers after Oct. 2. For Juniors, this test also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Sophomores are not eligible for the Scholarship competition, but can take the test for practice.

Juniors

Checks should be payable to LHS, and should be given to Mrs. Gardner in Guidance from Sept. 21- Oct. 2. We cannot guarantee a test for anyone who registers after Oct. 2. Juniors should plan to take the ACT and/or the SAT in the spring. Check catalogs to see if the colleges to which you plan to apply have a preference. It may be to your advantage to take both, as they are different; you may do better on one than the other. On your first attempt, we recommend that you pay the additional fee for the question and answer service, allowing you to review your test and answers and improve weaknesses before your next attempt. We also recommend that you take the optional writing test on the ACT, as some colleges will require this test. Registration packets for both tests are available in Guidance. You may also register online at and

Check college catalogs to see if any of the schools to which you will apply require SAT II Subject Tests. If so, you may wish to take these in the spring of your Junior year. Consult your Counselor if you have questions.

Seniors

All college-bound Seniors should have completed ACT and SAT testing in the spring of their Junior Year. If not, you should register immediately for fall testing! Testing must be completed by December for admissions decisions for Fall 2010. Seniors who have already completed testing may wish to re-test in an attempt to improve their scores.

Check college catalogs to see if any of the schools to which you will apply require SAT II Subject Tests. If so, register for these tests on the fall SAT test dates.
