PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

At Last weeks meeting we had once again another one of Ian Boys’s super quizzes and it was another tricky set of questions. I would like to thank Ian on behalf of all the members for putting together these quizzes; they are a lot of fun and are a great opportunity to get the brain working. For those members who haven’t been present for one of these quizzes, you don’t know what you are missing out on.

The next two weeks we have a couple of great guest speakers organised which partners are more than welcome to attend. This coming meeting we have a talk from a group of Rotaractors from Tullamarinewho went to Cambodia and constructed 2 water tanks. The Tullamarine Rotaract club is in Mark’s Gateway Cluster and recommended them as a great guest speaker for us. The following week on the 4 May, we have a speaker from Kokoda Trek for Troubled teens. This presentation was done at the Perth Convention, and is about taking socially troubled/ disadvantaged teens and put them along Kokoda to learn team skills etc. Both these guests would also be great to bring a guest along to, so if you know of someone who you may think may be interested please invite them, as I am sure they won’t be disappointed on the night. Also please note down in you diaries the meeting on the 25th May, where he has organised renowned Economist Paul Saliba to come and talk about the “Global Economic Outlook”. If you think you know anyone who you may think would be interested in coming along to this night let them know.

I have just received an email with information for the District Assembly to be held on the 15th May at the SacredHeartCollege at Kyneton. This is a great day of rotary information, whether you are on board or not, so I encourage all members to try and attend. This is an important day for those members who Chris has appointed to board positions next year, so let’s try and get as many members as possible to attend.

Well that’s all for this week,

Remember the Rotary International theme for this year of “Building Communities, Bridging Continents”, and our club theme “Be out be seen”, so let’s work together and have fun.

SOCIAL & PROGRAMS REPORT

Our speakers program is now fully booked up until the end of this Rotary year. I have some absolute crackerjack speakers lined up, including one that featured at last year's convention in Perth. I will give you more details on each as we get closer to the time, but this is what I have for next week's partners' night:

The Rotaract Club of Tullamarine raised and funded a project in Cambodia. Three club members from the Rotaract Club of Tullamarine visited Cambodia and assisted to build 2 water tanks at the Crisis Centre.

This was a major achievement for the Rotaract Club of Tullamarine and provided an understanding of humanitarian issues.

Mark Schirmer saw this presentation and said to me "Gordon, you must get this group along to one of our partners' nights!"

Our May partners's night has a renowned economics analyst, Paul Saliba talking about the global economic outlook. This is a high profilespeaker andwill bea major eventin the club's programming calender.I am promoting this event through the local newspapers to try to get some publicinterest, and of course promote the club at the same time. More information as we get closer.
