O’Hara appointed to 14th Judicial District chief judge position

Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Mullarkey has appointed Michael O’Hara to the position of chief judge in the 14th Judicial District (Moffat, Routt, and Grand counties). He replaces retiring Chief Judge Richard Doucette, who has served in the position since December 1987. The appointment becomes effective Jan. 1, 2003.

“This is an exciting time to take the helm as chief judge,” says O’Hara. “I look forward to working with all involved agencies to provide the best public service possible.”

Judge O’Hara is a 1984 graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law. He was engaged in a litigation practice in San Diego and Steamboat Springs before being appointed to the bench by Gov. Owens.

Colorado is divided into 22 judicial districts, each with a chief judge. As chief judge in the 14th Judicial District, O’Hara will serve as the administrative head of the district. He will be responsible for appointing the district administrator, chief probation officer and clerks of the court to assist in the personnel, financial and case management of the district along with seeing that the business of the courts is conducted efficiently and effectively. Other responsibilities include judicial assignments within each county.

“While I know that financial difficulties await, I am hopeful that our court staff can work together to achieve truly great results,” adds O’Hara.
