Welcome back to school for an exciting 8th grade year!

I. COURSE SYLLABUS

Listed below are the topics for study in 8th grade math class this school year that are in compliance with STARR Testing and TEKS.

(This is a projection for coursework and is subject to change.)

IPad – Apps and Software

II. MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES

Students are required to come to class prepared each day with the following:

Math book, math binder, pens & pencils, notebook paper, iPad and assignments.

The math binder will include a pencil bag and tabbed dividers. Keep pens, pencils, eraser, ear buds, and a calculator in the pencil bag.

III. TEXTBOOK & IPAD

Students are required to properly care for the math textbook and iPad and to bring them to class each day. The iPad is required to come to class charged and ready for classroom use. Students are to be responsible to follow teacher instruction on using the iPad. Students are not allowed to be on unauthorized websites or apps. Disciplinary action will be strictly enforced for misuse of iPads.

IV. HOMEWORK/ASSIGNMENTS

Assignments will show all work completed in pencil. More information on Teacher Website will follow soon. Email is the preferred method of contact. Please note that emails will be responded to in a timely manner but class instruction is a priority. Response to email will be before 4:30 p.m. or by the next morning after 8:00 am.

V. TUTORIALS

Tutorials for extra help on Tuesday – Friday, 7:35-8:00am.

VI. GRADING

Class grades will be posted online once a week. Please check Parent Portal.

Assessments 40%

VII. ABSENT/LATE WORK

Late work is accepted one day late. Absences will have one day allowed for make up work for each day of absence. It is the student’s responsibility to turn in absent work to the teacher.

VIII. CLASSROOM RULES/PROCEDURES

Rules:

1)  Listen when others are talking.

2)  Follow directions.

3)  Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

4)  Work quietly and do not disturb others.

5)  Show respect for school and personal property.

6)  Work and play in a safe manner.

Consequences:

1)  Verbal warning

2)  Student conference

3)  Parent contact

4)  Detention

5)  Discipline referral to Principal

IX. CELL PHONES

Student cell phones are not allowed in class. Cell phones will be collected from any student that has the cell phone out during class or their cell phone goes off during class time.

1st offense – phone collected and returned to student at the end of the day.

2nd offense – phone collected and turned in to the office with a discipline referral.

The math classroom is designed to provide a safe and positive learning environment. Thank you in advance for bringing your support to these guidelines to ensure a successful year.
