Course Description and Objectives:

Students will develop critical thinking skills by applying management concepts to their own experiences and to case studies. Students will also develop management skills to help them succeed in and out of the classroom, and in the changing business environment. Students will first learn about the global management environment, including management history, the effects of culture ethics and social responsibility on environment, and managing diversity in a global environment. In the next part of the course, the course topics will be structured around the four management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.

Weekly Quizzes

Each week you should read the assigned text, and then take the online quiz to assess your comprehension of chapter topics.

Research Paper

You will research an organization and write about how it works within the management functions we have discussed. This paper should have at least one paragraph per chapter of the textbook (e.g., write at least one paragraph on managing diversity, at least one on managing change, etc.), plus a Works Cited page with appropriate citations. Length: 3,000-5,000 words.

Attendance

Attendance is required and critical to your success in this course. If you miss more than two weeks’ worth of classes, you will fail the course. Be here. Be on time. I will excuse medical emergencies with a doctors’ note. Being present in class also means being engaged—please come prepared to discuss the readings.
