During the hotel's Opera Rocks gala dinner event on 20th March 2010, we raised RMB 130,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University to facilitate decorative enhancement for a conducive environment of the treatment room.

2. Project Description

(2.1) What are the Project’s measurable objectives?

To raise as much funds as possible for the special children within an evening.

To generate publicity and further enhance Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai as a 'hotel that cares'.

(2.2) Why was the Project selected? What social issue(s) does it seek to address?

We hope that children with leukaemia can receive better medical treatment and regain confidence to life. After raising sufficient funds, we were able to renovate the treatment rooms for them to ensure that they enjoy the comfort and happiness they deserve. Apart from that we also host them to activities such as a specially prepared lunches and entertainment for them in the hotel during festive periods.

(2.4) Please briefly describe the Project’s implementation, including timeline, key tasks, financial resources, etc.

30 May 2007: Children's Day gift donation - 80 sets of cookies & teddy bear;

2 December 2007: Christmas Tree Light Up Ceremony - Lunch and realising their wishes by getting their wish list in advance and distributing the gifts to kids according to their wish lists;

23 December 2008: Christmas Party for children from Fudan Children’s Hospital, Leukemia Ward - Entertained 20 children with parents – to Gingerbread making, lunch, santa, gifts;

3 December 2008: Christmas Tree Light Up;

18 December 2009: Christmas Lunch and gifts distribution;

19 Dec 2009: Hotel Management and staff representative visit the hospital and donate the gifts;

20 March 2010: Opera Rocks, charity auction for treatment room rennovation and medical facilities

(funds collected at RMB130,000, another stay-in guest donated RMB50,000) The fund will be used for treatment room renovation (to be completed in Aug 2010) and medical facilities.

Aug 2010: Renovated two treatment rooms and donated in-patient leukaemia treatment facilities and leisure amenities.

(2.5) Were there significant roadblocks? What were these and how were they overcome?

We didn't encounter any significant difficulty.

3. Results Analysis: Panel members assess the Project based on: (i) the significance of the results or outcomes, (ii) the measurability of these results or outcomes, and (iii) the availability of third party information and testimonials to show the Project’s impact on the beneficiaries.

(3.1) Who are the Project’s target beneficiaries?

Special children with leukaemia at the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University

(3.2) How many people have benefited from the Project?

Around 90 special children.

(3.3) What were the Project’s short-term and long-term qualitative and quantitative results or outcomes that generated benefits to the target beneficiaries? Please describe the relevance of these results/outcomes.

In the short term, Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai joined hands with the centre to raise funds of RMB 130,000 for in-patient leukaemia treatment facilities and leisure amenities. In the long term, this can enable the special children to enjoy the happiness they deserve.

(3.4) What qualitative and quantitative measures were used to track the impact of the Project? Are these the most objective measures available? If not, please explain why the objectives were not utilized.

A hotel representative pays regular visit to the hospital and have close contact with the hospital for hardware maintenance.

(3.5) In addition to the sponsoring company, who were the other parties responsible for the Project’s results? Please describe their contributions.

No third parties.

(3.6) How did the company benefit from the Project Please describe the nature and magnitude of these benefits. Please provide supporting documents.

It will create a better environment for all the special children to enjoy recreation. Also, we deliver food & gifts or invite their family to come to the hotel to celebrate festivals. This enables the special children to enjoy the happiness like other children.

(4.1) Corporate Expertise Analysis: Panel members assess the Project based on its utilization of corporate expertise other than just resources.

a) Which areas of corporate expertise were applied to the Project?

Our engerneering team was involved in the design and measurements, and oversaw the treatment renovation project. They used their expertise to consult and work with the supplier on the the air conditioning restructuring project to keep the air in the treatment room fresh.

During the annual Xmas luncheon, our pastry chef set up the gingerbread cookie painting station, taught the kids how to personalise DIY cookies and brought a lot of fun for them.

b) What was the composition of the teams that planned, implemented and monitored the Project?

Hotel CSR team consists of 19 members - the Hotel Manager and managers from Engineering, S&M, Events, F&B service, HR, Communications, Laundry, Gourmet, Yi-Café, Nadaman, Service Centre, Room Service.

The team planned, implemented and monitored the Project.

CSR team will contact with the hospital on a regular basis and made regular visits to obtain the latest feedback.

We envision in the long term to sustain this project.

We stand together, fight together and win together with these special children, like we are a caring family.
