Amnesty Day 2014

amnesty: (n) the act of an authority by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals.

–Merriam-Webster dictionary

As you know, the rule regarding late work in this class states that any assignment—with one or two exceptions—may be turned in for partial credit during the unit in which it has been assigned. However, this semester there will be a one-day exception to this rule.

Amnesty Day 2014 will be held next Monday, on December 8th. On this day, any assignment(s) given during the fall semester may be turned in for partial credit, within a 50-point maximum limit. This rule applies to handouts, vocabulary packets, projects, and presentations, but does NOT apply to tests, quizzes, grade checks, or annotation checks other than in our current novel. The regular late-work guidelines will be used to determine how many points each assignment can receive (up to 89%). That’s the deal: one day to make up any of those missing assignments that have been hanging around since August.

Please plan ahead for Amnesty Day! Most of the handouts and activities from this class will be linked on the class website under the day it was originally assigned. You can find the correct day for the assignment by looking on your homelink account. However, some activities, including vocabulary packets, are not listed on the website. If you need any handouts from me, you must fill out and return the request form to me no later than THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4TH. Requested handouts will be given to you on the day after you have turned in your request form. If you will be absent on Amnesty Monday, please make arrangements for someone else to bring in this work for you. Amnesty work will not be accepted after 3:30 on December 8th. If you believe you have outstanding circumstances which will affect your ability to turn work in on this date, you may meet with me outside of class to discuss them.

Amnesty Day 2014 is a once-in-a-semester opportunity. Make the most of your day!
