School Advisory Council Meeting Minutes
November 16, 2016
The SAC meeting started at 10:35 a.m. in the Seagull’s School Cafeteria and was chaired by Ms. Renee Hudson (SAC Chair-person).

The minutes from October 20, 2016 was reviewed and approved with no corrections to be made. (A copy of the Attendance sheet is attached)
Administrative Report –Mr. Bonnie Clemon, Jr., Principal
School Improvement Plan (SIP) Update
a. Review Board Approved School Improvement Plan
v The District approved the SIP plan in late October 2016 (You may log onto the School Website or go to front office a copy is available).
v The SIP plan is aligned by Academics, Behavior and Attendance.
Goal One-Decrease the number of student behavior referrals
· Utilize the Response to Intervention Process
· Mentoring Programs (Cares Mentoring, Hanley Center and Mr. Clemon’s Male Mentor Group).
Goal Two-Increase number of credits earned by students
· Lesson formats: Face to Face, Computer Based format, Utilize APEX, Florida Virtual Courses, Teachers modify assignments and Conduct Data test to let a students know where they are and what they need to earn their half credit.
Goal Three-Increase student attendance
· If a student miss three consecutive days from school their teacher will call to see what is going on and if the student is ok.
· The Social Worker, Mr. Hall will get a referral to do a home visit.
Goal Four-Increase the graduation rate
· 40% of the students that took the PERT test passed.
· The PERT test is used to meet Algebra 1 End of Course graduation requirements.
· ACT results are coming out in late October. Students need to register for the December/January test date
· Teachers do school wide PLC twice a month.
School-Wide Positive Behavior Plan
· Instead of suspension and expelling students, strategies are put in place to help display positive behavior.
· Deal with the discipline behaviors prominent in our school, to be implemented for the 2016 and 2017 school year by April.
· Create a list of expectations and lesson plans to help students adapt to positive behaviors.
· Mrs. Nichols ask students for suggestions as to incentives to take under advisement. (Ex. Movie Day)
Dress Code Policy-Seagull adheres to the Broward School Districts dress code policy. (Such as wearing of hats, showing or covering of mid-section and appropriate shorts and skirts.
· Students adhering to dress code policy are acknowledged through the Dress Code Swag Board to receive a reward for proper dress. (Wattley)
· Mrs. Nichols commented that they are looking into doing a unified dress code for next year. (Collared shirt and colored bottoms)
Upcoming Events
· Thanksgiving Appreciation Day-November 17, 2016 (Gift Baskets for Students)
· National Family Literacy Celebration-November 17, 2016, targeting teen parents and parenting. 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. (Giveaways and community resources) Sponsor Dr. Tia Major Shoats.
· AWA Fundraiser-November 19, 2016 at West Ken Lark Park. $10.00 admission. Food, drink and entertainment. AWA need outside sources to keep their program going. Adults with Disabilities ranging in ages 22-75. The students do job training, laundry service (they take care of our Dress Code Violation T Shirts). Donations are welcomed.
· PERT Exam-December 6, 2016
· ACT Exam- December 10, 2016
· District fourth annual Harvest Feast on Saturday, November 19, 2016, 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. You may visit any of the Technical Colleges, Atlantic, McFatter or Sheridan.
· Parent Engagement Conference at Fort Lauderdale High School, 8:00 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2016. Topics: Educational Technology, Naviance-Family Connection, Booster Clubs and helping to build relationships in the community. (You may register at Browardschools.com/411 registration.

Meeting started at 10:55a.m. by Ms. Renee Hudson. The District is in the process of analyzing data to decide whether to change school boundaries. There will be more information forth coming.
