Job Purpose:
Working as an independent craftsperson and/or as part of a team, the postholder is required to plan and undertake maintenance works on Council Housing, Schools and Corporate Buildings. To assess, determine and carry out plumbing remedial works required in line with current regulations/water byelaws, and awareness of health and safety methods and practices.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
1.  Undertake all associated works in relation to plumbing repairs and installation in both domestic and commercial buildings.
2.  Ensure that the works issued is undertaken in accordance with current regulations and water byelaws.
3.  Interpret instructions issued in relation to works required and assess the overall site to determine appropriate methods of work, materials and tools to be utilised in relation to the work to be undertaken and any associated additional requirements necessary in order to complete the works.
4.  Be responsible for setting up the site, undertaking site specific risk assessments
5.  Responsible for the overall planning and completion of the required works reporting any deviations required to the Programmer/Supervisor.
6.  Provide solutions to adapt work to accommodate any problems which arise whilst on site.
7.  Undertake other such activities as may be reasonably requested by manager or supervisor.
Relationships: Responsibility for People – Supervision/Management:
The post does not have full responsibility for supervision, however the postholder would plan the work and at times when accompanied by other operative instruct their work colleague to carry out tasks and undertake on-site training as appropriate.
Impact and Advising: Decision making, Planning requirements and Procedural context:
1.  Due to the nature of work, the post holder will be required to undertake works as issued by works programmer/supervisor/manager. Works are normally issued electronically on a job by job basis, on occasions larger works will be issued via works schedule.
2.  On a day to day basis the post holder will be expected to rectify any difficult situations or problems encountered on site within given guidelines and specification.
3.  The post holder will undertake all site specific risk assessments and plan how to organise the work to be completed
Relationships: Communication / Nature of Contacts:
1.  As a member of front line staff the postholder will be expected to liaise with tenants and building managers. Contentious issues would be noted and forwarded to supervisor/manager.
2.  Ability to communicate relevant information to team members & Line Managers.
Job Working Environment:
1.  The post undertakes manual work requiring regular intense physical effort i.e. manual handling, some use of hand and vibratory tools.
2.  There is a requirement for physical dexterity for the use of small hand tools.
3.  The post is site based (part outside), post holder will be exposed to the elements, dust, noise, confined spaces, work at height etc.
Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills: / Essential / Desirable
1.  NVQ level 3 Certificate in Plumbing and Heating or equivalent and 3 year post qualification work experience.
2.  Possession of a clean driving licence
3.  The possession of a relevant CSCS card qualification
4.  Self motivated with the ability to work un-supervised.
5.  The postholder is required to be able to carry out such manual tasks as are associated with the role, including working at height and working in attic spaces.
6.  Good communication and people skills.
7.  Experience in the use of plant and equipment relevant to construction activities.
8.  Ability to act independently and assess and decide on the best method of carrying out work.
9.  Keep up to date with any changes to the Plumbing Regulations and Health and Safety legislation.
10.  Welsh language skills are desirable for all posts. / X
