Math: We Will Finish Our Envision Math Curriculum with Topic 2 Which Is: Subtraction Strategies

September 18th through September 22nd, 2017

Language Arts and Reading: We will continue our Superkid’s curriculum this week. The topics covered will be a review from 1st grade and will include: /th/, /wh/ patterns in words, parts of a letter, addressing an envelope, sequence of events, homonyms and using a dictionary. We WILL BE having a spelling test this week on Friday.

Math: We will finish our Envision math curriculum with Topic 2 which is: Subtraction Strategies. This will include connecting subtraction to addition and making a 10 to subtract. We will begin topic 3 which is Numbers to 1,200. Counting hundreds, tens and ones, reading and writing numbers in the thousands and ways to make numbers.

Social Studies: For this six weeks our Social Studies concepts will focus on the legend of Johnny Appleseed and the Constitution, what it is and what it stands for.

Science: For this six weeks our science concepts will focus on the states of matter and energy, as well as Scientific Investigations and Reasoning.

Health: For this six weeks our health concepts will focus on staying healthy by not spreading germs and stranger danger education.

I will be ordering our class t-shirts very soon, and I still do not have some of the money. It is $10 for a class shirt. If you have not sent this yet, please do so ASAP!

We will be doing a Johnny Appleseed play on Friday, September 29th at 10:30AM. We would love for you to come and watch the play! Lunch will be right after the play, and then we will have an apple tasting party in our classroom right after lunch. If you can send something made out of apples for our party, that would be great! (For example, apple bread, apple turnovers, apple juice, apples and caramel….ANYTHING!) It is not required, but if you can, we would appreciate it! I am also asking each parent to send 2 whole apples to school by Wednesday. We will graph for colors, size, etc. Please send lots of different colors! Thank you so much for your help with all of this!
