Houston Material Handling Society (HMHS)

The HMHS is part of the South Texas sub-chapter of ASME. Meetings are held monthly, usually the third Tuesday of the month, at the HESS building in Houston on Westheimer near the Galleria. Attendance is open to anyone. A cash bar is available from 6:00 to 6:30 pm, Dinner ($12) is served from 6:30 to 7:00 pm. After a few announcements, the presenter is introduced and his presentation (generally around 45 minutes) is made with additional time for questions.

Attendees include folks from local engineering firms, end users, manufacturer’s representatives and other manufacturers. Depending on the subject, attendance will be as few as 15 and as many as 40.

Presentation

The presentation should not be a 100% sales pitch for your company. It is desired to be a “generic” type presentation of a process or type of equipment that is of interest to folks involved in solids processing, along with recent innovations or case histories that your company has developed or experienced. If you have another idea or approach you would like to present, please submit your idea and it will be considered.

HMHS can provide an overhead projector (for transparencies) and a screen at no cost to the presenter. Any other equipment required such as a power point projector or VCR/TV will need to be furnished by the presenter. HESS has such equipment available but at a very high cost (~$300 rental for the night). We find these to be cost prohibitive.

A “Technical Presentation Request” form should be completed and submitted for your presentation. It is important that the title be informative, as it will be used to advertise as the topic for that night.

If you would like to bring literature or handouts (to be used during the presentation or after the presentation), this is quite all right.

If you are comfortable with sending an electronic version of your presentation and give us permission, we will post it on our website for viewing by all. Visit our website at

Plant Tours

HMHS is also interested in having plant tours in which the society holds a regular meeting at a local plant or facility. Typically meals are catered in and the presenter then leads a tour of the facility. Some recent examples have been a Belt conveyor manufacturer shop tour and structural steel software demonstration, FIBC manufacturer tips on how to size bulk bags and shop tour, Cement storage and loadout facility history and plant tour. Please contact us if you have a suggestion.
