Project: Criteria for contraception use and non-use and predictable factors for safe contraception use in Latvia.

REPORT

1ststage

During the 1st stage of the research conducted in the period from September 21, 2013, till July 30, 2014, the first version of aquestionnaire with 158 articles was set up. Apparent validity test was carried out, and it resulted in removing 7 articles from the questionnaire as they were not understandable to representatives of the target audience.

After completing content validity test that was carried out by two experts in the field of contraception issues – Dr. Dita Baumane-Auza and Dr. Ināra Pundure, 6 more articles were removed from the questionnaire.

Consequently, after completing apparent and content validity tests, 145 articles remained in the questionnaire.

Also the language use in 28 articles was adjusted after consultations with experts of linguistics.

Afterwards the psychometric testing of the questionnaire, where 48 respondents were surveyed, was carried out. The questionnaire’s reliability test by calculating Cronbach'salphacoefficientresulted in removing 30 more articles from the questionnaire. Thus 95 articles remained.

Development of the questionnaire’s articles and validity test was carried out by Marija Vāciete and Dita Baumane-Auza.

2nd stage

During the 2nd stage of setting up articles of the questionnaire and its validity testing, in July and August, 2014,196 respondents were surveyed to carry out psychometric testing of the questionnaire.40 more articles were removed from the questionnaire, because internal correlation of the calculation of Cronbach'salphacoefficientand factor weights according to the factor analysis was unsatisfactory.

Consequently, 55 articles, suitable for conducting research, remained in the questionnaire.

Repeated testing of the questionnaire’s articles was carried out by Marija Vāciete and Dita Baumane-Auza; data validation and input wasperformed by Āris Andersons. Translation of the questionnaire’s articles into the Russian language: Anna Gogele.

3rd stage

As of September, 2014, the 3rd stage of the research – carrying out the research in 6 biggest cities of Latvia, has been started. It foresees surveying 1500 men and women using the Latvian and Russian languages. Until September 20, 379 respondents were surveyed.It is planned to complete the research till December 15, 2014. Datacollection and input is being performed by Āris Andersons. Datacollection and processing is being performed by Dita Baumane-Auza and Marija Vāciete.

The results of the research are to be published at the ESC conferencein 2015, Congress in 2016, and in the ESC journal, as well as at the conference to be held in Latvia, in 2015.
