Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Autumn season, on our reckoning the 26th year of the club, which has had its ups and downs, but as Dr Frankenstein said in the 1931 film of the same name “It's alive! It's alive!”.

We, your committee, have chosen with some help from you our members a fine, exciting and eclectic mix of films from around the globe which we hope you will find absorbing and of interest. I personally love seeing how they are directed and shot from an internationalist perspective.

The early part of the season is a little fragmented because we have to fit in with the live-screening and blockbuster schedule at the Palace. The first film is on September 13th with "Theeb", a Jordanian film, winner of a number of awards at the Venice Film Festival and set in the deserts of Wadi Rum. Then there is a 3 week break before the second film on October 11th, the Coen Brothers “Hail Caesar”.

We have reduced the membership subscription from £15 to £12.50 this year as we got the impression that many of you felt it was overpriced. "What do we get for being a member?” someone asked me. You help to keep this vibrant club going and bring films that would not be shown in Devizes to a wider audience. You also benefit from a reduced ticket price of £6.50 instead of £7.50.

Our AGM is on 25th October at The Lamb pub, next to the town hall. An agenda for the meeting is attached. This is a great opportunity to tell us what you think of the club and to meet the committee. We are always looking for new committee members so if you would like to help run the club, please do come along.

I look forward to seeing you at the cinema on the 13th September at 8pm.

Very best wishes and "May the Force be with you".
