Molly Drvenkar – CHVE 2017 / 2018

A few Highlights from Molly’s presentation:

  • The Leadership Team, comprised of staff from across CHVE, with a two year term limit, have been gathering throughout the year looking at innovative ways to problem solve and implement change across our school. Some ideas are easy to implement, while others are more systemic. All ideas are gathered and in the Spring, Molly holds a 1 day meeting for 8 hours to determine what ideas to implement the following school year.
  • Rules of the Road include:
  • Professionalism
  • Confidential
  • Honor multiple perspectives
  • Guiding principal is always what is best for the kids
  • Listen with an open mind
  • Speak up – be and advocate and leader
  • Communicate outcomes with a positive rationale
  • Miscellaneous changes
  • Halloween will remain the same as it was in 206/17. Students may wear costumes to school, but no masks or scary costumes. There will be a parade.
  • Specials teachers and KE support teachers will cover after school bus duty during conference week.
  • Everyone needs to enforce a no hat, no hood policy in the building.
  • There will be a testing schedule committee.
  • NOTE: Bonnie List suggested there be a parent advisor added to the committee.
  • Behind the scenes, Molly is working to ensure a positive climate is maintained amongst staff to ensure that kids are positively impacted every day they come to school. A few additions include; Emergentics (for current 5th grade), Bowling party in place of staff meeting, staff clue room, etc.
  • Staffing Plan
  • There was a reduction in staffing, mandated by Cherry Creek School District, but this can be managed with contribution from other areas.
  • CHVE PTCO can support funds for classified or para-teachers, 12 employees. No other schools have this amount of support.
  • Intend to implement Orton Gillingham training for K – 3rd Grade; pending PTCO approval and auction success.
  • Typically over $1K / teacher for the training.
  • Company offered to provide individualized training on-site at CHVE.
  • PBIS – Positive Behavior Incentives and Supports
  • Continue the High 5’s and rules and incentives next year.
  • Beginning of the year assemblies to emphasize our rules and to learn the High 5 Cheer.
  • Electronic system will be implemented to better monitor students who have been recognized.
  • Committee will focus on training throughout the school.
