PROJECT EXPERIENCE

1) Pinnacle

Duration: Since November 2004.

Client: ExxonMobil Corporation.

Role: PL/SQL Developer

Software: Oracle 8i Database

Description: This is a maintenance project, which involves the analysis, testing and fixing of bugs for an application called TabWare. The client team raises problem tickets when they encounter certain bugs in the form of incorrect data or program errors in their system. These tickets are then transferred to a central repository and assigned to different groups from where they are picked up and resolved by support analysts. TabWare is a third party application developed in PowerBuilder and uses Oracle 8i as the database. This application is used to create, manage work orders and inventory at the ExxonMobil refineries. The TabWare application is set up in such a way that it transfers work order and inventory information to a SAP system and receives cost information in return. These interfaces are coded using UNIX shell scripts and are scheduled to run at regular intervals.

Role and Responsibility

Analyze, test and fix bugs in the Oracle PL/SQL code.

Monitor the UNIX interfaces.

Conduct conference calls with the clients to gather any additional information/requirements to resolve errors.

Prepare technical design document and estimate for SWIs (Small work items) requested by the client team.

2) GALP (Global Access Loyalty Programme)

Duration: November 2002 to November 2004.

Client: Xylem Corporation Private Limited.

Role: PL/SQL Programmer and Database Administrator

Software: Visual Basic 6.0, Oracle 9i, SQL Server 2000.

Description: The system involves a group of customers (only Indian Residents) registering for a training programme by paying a nominal fee. Once the number of customers in a particular place reaches a certain predefined value, that group of customers is trained to market certain products. It also involves bonuses being generated for new customer enrolments and on the sale of products. All customers are given a smart card, which stores points earned that can be redeemed at certain outlets for other goods or services. The entire process of registering these new customers, distributing their bonus amounts was designed and coded in Visual Basic 6.0 and Oracle 9i PL/SQL. The backend used, to store the entire customer details, their commissions and the schedules of their training programmes was Oracle 9i.

Role and Responsibility

Analysis and Design of the Data Model.

Creation of the database and the necessary table structures in Oracle 9i.

Analysis, Design, Coding and Testing of the logic for distributing bonuses, registering new customers was done using VB 6.0 and Oracle 9i PL/SQL.

Administering the Oracle 9i database.

3) e-Tran DigiCash expenditure plan

Duration: December 2001 to November 2002.

Client: Kedia Infotech Limited

Role: Software Engineer (Analysis, Design and Coding at the database level)

Software: Oracle 8i/9i PL/SQL

Description: The e-Tran DigiCASH expenditure plan aims to replace the conventional process of expenditure with a profitable saving opportunity. It provides a platform, which links the two fundamental units of the market, i.e. the Buyer and the Seller, who mutually benefit.

It involves an existing member sponsoring a new member, which results in commissions being distributed among a select subset of the entire member base. The entire logic of distributing commissions, arrangement of the members according to their sponsors, maintenance of the member and other accounts were coded using Oracle 8i/9i PL/SQL. Once the members start earning commissions, they are permitted to load that amount in a "Smart Card" using a "DigiCash Loader" (DLC) which can be used at select outlets authorized by the company called as "At The Counter" (ATC's). As they spend the amounts loaded on their smart cards, commissions are generated and distributed among a select group of members.

Role and Responsibility

Analysis, Design, Documentation of the Data Model (E-R Modeling).

Analysis, Design, Coding, Testing, Documentation of the logic for distributing commissions, arrangement of the members according to their sponsors, maintenance of the accounts using Oracle 9i PL/SQL.

Creating scripts using Oracle 9i PL/SQL that would be useful to an Oracle 9i DBA.

Testing different backup/recovery strategies for an Oracle 9i database.

4) Spatiotemporal data visualization and analysis (Malaria in India as a case study).

Duration: August 2000 to August 2001 (as part of GNIIT program).

Organization: Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB).

Role: Project Assistant (Analysis, Design and Coding)

Software: MATLAB, Windig 2.5, VC++ 6.0.

Description: Protecting and preserving our natural life-support systems requires the ability to understand the direct and indirect effects of human activities over long periods of time and over large areas. One particular point of research is the spatiotemporal nature of data: how does a particular feature behave at certain times and how does it evolve over time. This necessitates the need for the presentation and exploration of spatiotemporal data such that one can discover the major features underlying masses of data. These are performed by special visualization systems that transform data into graphical form. Often, the temporal nature of the data leads to animated visualizations that depict change over time.

As an example, the epidemiological data, on the incidence of the disease malaria in different parts of India at different scales (district, state and national level) for a time span of about 30 years was used. Such a mass of data (available in the form of data tables) have hidden in them important features that can be used to predict the disease scenario in future, both in regions of interest and over time.

Role and Responsibility

Digitization of maps at the district, state and country level using Windig 2.5.

Analysis, Design and Coding of the visualization software using MATLAB.

Performing analysis on different graphs and reports developed that would be useful in predicting the disease scenario in future.

Development of a similar software using VC++ 6.0.
