Tomorrow’s Educators for Today’s Children

deLissa Oration Public Lecture by Keith Bartley, CEO of Department of Education and

Children’s Services.Mr Bartley will share his vision for stronger partnerships with multi

disciplinary professionals, children, families, and communities, in working together to consider

the needs of the whole child, with particular emphasis on our most vulnerable children. The

evolving needs and abilities of today’s children will be explored, along with the implications for

tomorrow’s workforce.

Book Launch

– Building Integrated Connections for Children their Families and Communities

Officially launched by the Hon Julie Collins MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Community Services. This book makes a major contribution to the debate about how we can make services available to the families that most need them. It also addresses the critical issue of co-producing services with children, families and communities so that they feel powerfully engaged in the process. Includes contributions from more than 40 practitioners, policy makers and researchers who work in community services, education and health for state, federal government and non government sectors.

Children’s Week 2011 will be officially launched by Mrs Liz Scarce, hosted by Vale Park Primary School. Performances by students from Vale Park Primary School,Vale Park Preschooland Marryatville High School and entertainment by ‘Noises for Kids’. By invitation . Playgroup in the Park

Children 0-5yrs and parents/carers welcome to big day out and it is FREE! Bring along your family for a day of fun. Be entertained or enjoy the fun activities available for you and your child to do. Churches throughout the state will be observing Children’s Week with Prayers for Children of the World. Children’s Week reminds all churches that we care about children, and we can teach our children to care about others. ‘Finding My Magic’

Promotion of Child Rights through the Intensive Supported Play scheme. During Play scheme

sessions, qualified early childhood development staff will use selected episodes from the

Savethe Children’s Finding My Magic series to raise child rights awareness amongst the

children and their parents. Finding My Magic is an award winning, animated, educational

recourse, created toassist young children build empathy, confidence and communication

skills and to develop an awareness of their own rights, as well as their responsibilities to

Mrs Scarce, Patron of Children’s Week, will host a reception at Government House and present the Children’s Week Awards recognising excellence in the provision of services to children. International School Library Day

celebrating International School Library Day. An event has been organized to recognize two worthy recipients of School Library related Awards. SLASA will also be showcasing new resources and new ideas as they relate to the new Australian Curriculum.

Also, during International School Library Month, students can participate in a number of events organized by the International School Library Association (IASL).

National Kidsafe Day

This day aims to increase awareness of unintentional childhood injuries and their prevention, as well as the valuable work of Kidsafe - The Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Australia. 2011 National Kidsafe Day Awards: Celebrating Road Safety Champions. The focus for National Kidsafe Day this year is Road Safety. FREE Child Car Restraint Checking Day to be held in Parking Bay Number 7 of the Myer/ColesCar Park - Centro Colonnades Shopping Centre (accessed from Burgess Drive, Noarlunga Centre) from 10.30am - 2.30pm.

Children’s Safety Celebration

A major annual celebration of children’s safety. A huge array of safety displays and hands-on activities will be set up on the school oval. These include fire and emergency services, Safety Assist, police, water safety and many other safety and community services. Children will undertake a “Safety Trail” as they visit the exhibits and learn more about keeping themselves safe. Students will also take part in a special assembly for invited guests and the school community and they will enjoy an amazing illusion show to finish the day on a fun note!

World Teachers Day

A colourful event starting with a grand parade of children, students, parents and community members of ethnic schools from diverse cultural and linguistic background. It starts from Hindmarsh Square, finishing at the Adelaide Festival Centre Terrace where presented will be a program of performances by talented young ethnic schools’ children and students.

“Slimed!”with CSIRO’s Double Helix Science Club

Hands-on science experiments with the “chemistry” theme.Children will learn about polymers as they make Silly Slime, Gummy Goop, Flubber, Frog Spawn and lots more gooey Slime that they can take home. Messy – but lots of fun! Parents are encourage to come along with children.

Suitable for young people aged 7 to 14 Cost: $15 per child – accompanying parents FREE.
