Course Summative Evaluation: Part A (15%) + Part B (15%) = Total Summative (30%)

Learning Goal = Drawing on the performance skills developed over the span of this course and a variety of technological tools, you will create a website to summarize your research on an influential twentieth century playwright, and present a scene that will exemplify your playwright’s work to teach to a student audience.

Success Criteria

Part A = Create an informative web page, including a trailer for your scene/play

Part B = Present a scene or a short play to your student audience that represents your playwright’s work

PART A – WEB PAGE (15%)

·  Students are put into Teacher approved groups

·  Groups select and seek Teacher approval for a significant twentieth century playwright. As well, they select a short play or scene to present to demonstrate the playwright’s work. (Note: the playlet or scene must have roles for each group member)

·  At the Library, students can choose to use Microsoft Publisher or another approved site create a website to showcase their research

·  Research will be divided amongst group members. Each member is responsible for their own area, and for citing their own sources

·  Each group member will select an area to research from the options below (no duplicates within a group):

a)  A biography of the playwright starting from their early years and spanning through their life time. Emphasize significant events or influences on a personal level.

b)  Research the socio-economic and political factors that influenced your playwright’s body of work. Include alliances as well as restrictions that were of significance.

c)  Analyze the style and uniqueness of your playwright’s work that set them apart. Discuss their purpose and vision. Include reactions and reviews at the time

d)  Research the influence of your playwright’s body of work on society. Investigate other artists who may have been influenced by your artist’s work.

·  Students are to include a bibliography on their web page

·  Images and photos and other visuals should be included on your webpage

·  Audio and video segments are encouraged on your webpage

·  Each student will present their web page to the class prior to performing their scene.

·  Each student will be evaluated on their own web page

PART B – STAGED PRESENTATION (15%)

·  Groups select a scene from their playwright’s body of work to present to the class. The piece should be representative of their work and have a role for each of the members of the group (approximately 2 – 3 minutes for each group member i.e. 3 members = 6 to 9 minutes).

·  Students will have class time to plan, produce and rehearse their piece (approximately 5 classes) If additional time is required, students can make arrangements with the teacher or work outside of class time.

·  Students will be evaluated for responsible practices with includes being prepared and ready for your presentation date.

·  Productions should include the following elements:

o  Set design

o  Music/sound effects

o  Costumes

o  Props

o  Choreography/blocking

o  Acting skills/style
