IN minimally invasive surgical techniques
ABOUT FIGO
The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of women worldwide. As part of this commitment, the FIGO Committee for Capacity Building in Education and Training, with the support of Olympus Surgical Technologies Europe is now able to offer training to doctors in minimally invasive surgery techniques through the establishment of a regional training centre in the Ukraine.
The medical facility that has been selected as a suitable training centre in Odessais at the Odessa National Medical University Hospital
OBJECTIVE
The intention is to hold two to three training courses a year lasting approximately four days with a maximum of ten participants per course selected from the region. Those trained will need to meet strict criteria on completion of the course and will receive a certificate jointly signed by FIGO and the Ukrainian Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. The date of the first course, which will only be open to candidates from the Ukraine, will be 11th – 15th February 2013.
THE TRAINING COURSES
The training courses will aim:
- To provide a practical and theoretical training process in basic endoscopic techniques.
- To support the knowledge and promotion of endoscopic techniques through hands-on training on isolated organs and/or electronic simulators.
- To promote reaching diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms of the main endoscopic pathologies on the basis of evidence-based medicine by taking part in live demonstrations carried out by Experts and broadcasted from the Endoscopy Unit.
- To promote the comparison of various techniques and devices.
- To promote comparing different experiences through interactive discussions with experts.
- To support mutual exchange and optimisation of the gynaecology endoscopy activities in
- terms of planning and management by comparing the different methods of organisation of local Units.
All costs of travel and accommodation will be covered from the proceeds of a grant from Olympus Surgical Technologies Europe.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must:
- Have completed residency training in obstetrics and gynaecology with basic surgical skills.
- Work in a hospital with facilities to install endoscope procedures.
Trainees practicing in a public hospital will have a priority over a private institution.
APPLICATION
Candidates must complete an application form and support it with the following documents:
- Photocopy of a medical degree with English translation
- A letter of recommendation from head of department
- A short curriculum vitae (CV)
- Three (3) copies of the completed application form and all supporting documents
All applications and supporting documentation must be submitted in English.
REGISTRATION FEE
There is no registration fee for the course.
SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
The FIGO Committee for Capacity Building in Education & Training will review the applications in consultation with the national society in Sudan. Successful candidates will be notified by25th January 2013. Please note that no correspondence can be entered into regarding the Committee’s decision.
