INTERNSHIP TIMELINE

INTERNSHIP

The internship is a one (1) school-year teaching assignment, comprised of 180 instructional days with an average of four (4) hours per day in the certification area. The internship may be completed at any Texas public school, accredited charter school, or approved private school.

During the internship, the candidate will serve as the teacher of record and receive the same pay, benefits, and responsibilities as any first-year teacher.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS FOR STANDARD CERTIFICATION: INTERNSHIP OPTION

TIMELINE / STEP / ACTION
Fall or
Spring / 1 / Submit an Accelerate OnlineInterest Formandofficial transcripts or UIN for a review of content hours and GPA.
2 / Register, take & pass the TExES Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT) in the desired certification field. Submit a passing Score Report to Accelerate Online.
3 / Submit an Accelerate Online application and application fee.
4 / Interview with the program
5 / Pending acceptance, attend a mandatory Program Orientation.
6 / Begin Accelerate Online modules/assignments.
7 / Schedule and complete a 40-hour Field-Based Experience.
Spring-
Summer / 8 / Apply for teaching positions, attend career fairs, and interview for positions.
9 / Register, take & pass the TExES Pedagogy & Professional Responsibilities (PPR) exam for probationary certification*.
Summer / 10 / Complete all online courses, submissions & assignments.
This component MUST be completed prior to probationary certification approval.
11 / Accept a teaching position.
Email to Accelerate Online a copy of contract or other documentation of job offer.
12 / ApplyforProbationary (or Intern)Certification & fingerprinting.
13 / Complete Classroom Management Plan assignment in Internship module.
August-
June / 14 / Begin teaching assignment; meet with the University Supervisor and Intern Support Team (comprised of campus mentor teacher, supervising administrator & University Supervisor).
15 / Successfully complete all program requirements & assignments throughout the school year.
16 / ApplyforStandard Certificationupon notification in May from Accelerate Online.This will ensure that you will make the correct selections on your application!
17 / Upon successful completion of all program and Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements, Texas A&M will make a recommendationfor Standard Certification inJune.

* When recommended for employment as a full-time teacher, the candidate will be eligible for

probationary or intern (new as of 9/1/2017) certification.
