The Boys & Girls Club of Cape CodAnnounces New Spring Programs

The Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod has posted their new spring schedule and announced new program offerings at the Club for the spring. Membership in the Club is open to all Cape Cod children, ages 6-18 for only $15 for the entire school year.

The New Programs at the Boys & Girls Club this spring include:

Young Eagles Program: Learn about aviation and actually fly in an airplane! TheYoung Eagles program meets here and then heads to the Marstons Mills Airfield where kids get to enjoy a plane ride with a fully licensed pilot. The classroom presentations will occur starting on Thursday, May 18th and flying for participants will take place on Saturdays. Must be age 8 & up. Children and teens must sign up in advance & permission slips are required. Spaces are limited so sign up early.

Image Makers: Join others in the art of photography. Participants will learn the basics of photography, take pictures, make frames, and can compete in a national photo contest.The group meets every Wednesday in the ArtRoom at 3:00 for Grade 3 to 6 and at 4:00 for Kindergarten to Grade 2.

Junior Golf: Ever wanted to learn how to play golf? Well, you can right at the Boys & Girls Club. Learn the basics of golf: driving, pitching, and putting and put your new skills to work playing real golf at a local golf course for the final session! This class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays. K-Grade 3 meets at 4:30 and Grade 4 - Grade 6 at 3:45.

Flag Football: Learn the ins and outs of flag football on Wednesdaywith Mic. Learn how to play, compile statistics, and just have fun. Open to members in grades 3 and up on Wednesday’s from 3-4.

Karate:Lord Utmost’s School of Karate brings their program to the Boys and Girls Club Gym every Wednesday and Friday. The program teaches kids the basics of karate as well as discipline, respect, and courage. Meets from 5:00 to 6:30 on both nights. There is a $40.00 charge per person.

Art Room: Join Amy for a new project every Monday thru Thursday. A sampling of projects in the next few weeks include: Chinese symbols and tattoo art, comic and flip books, paper mache animals, and the ever popular, SLIME!

An all new Mad Science Program:Putting a spin on science, this program teaches different avenues of science by exploring, building, and mixing things up! Offered Mondays at 4:00 starting May 15 for 4 weeks (no class May 29th). Mad Science is free for members and $30 for all 4 weeks for non-members. Pre-registration is advised

Everyday Activities at the Club:

Below are some of the daily activities at the club:

Tournament of Day: The games room staff runs a tournament and everyone has a chance to earn points to later cash in for prizes! Tourney changes daily.

Sports: The gym staff will keep kids moving and having fun all afternoon. A sampling of activities include: dodge ball, soccer, basketball, tetherball, and volleyball. The list never stops growing! Come in and check it out.

Teen Activities this spring:

6, 7 & 8th Grade Dance: Friday, May 19 join other 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade students for a dance here at the club. Held from 7:30 to 9:30 and features a local DJ. Admission is $3.00 for club members, and $5.00 for non-members.

A Reminder for Cape Teens - the Club is open for “teens only” from any town on the Cape every night Monday –Thursday from 6-8 pm and on Friday until 10 pm, so come in with a few friends for open gym and shoot basketball or play volley ball in our full size gym, play video games, pool, or air hockey in our games room, or just hang out with other teens ages 13-18. Interested in an activity? Let us know and we will try and provide it!

College Campus Visits: The Club is now planning visits to college campuses with in driving distance of the Cape. Let us know what schools you want to visit and the Club will take you there!

The Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod is located at 31 Frank E. Hicks Drive in Mashpee, right off of Route 151, near the Mashpee Commons and behind the Mashpee Police and Fire Stations. Membership entitles children ages 6-18 to unlimited use of the Club including the gym, the high speed internet computer room, the arts and crafts programs, pool, foosball, air hockey, Teen and TV room, education programs, character and leadership programs, and more.

Most of the programs offered at the Club are free for members but sometimes there is a small fee to cover the cost of program materials. The Boys & Girls Club philosophy is to provide services to all children, irregardless of family income, and limited scholarship money is available to help cover fees when there is a documented financial need.

The Club is open from 2:45 to 7 PM Monday through Friday and on Saturdays from 9:30-4:30 for children in grades 1-6. A Teen Club meet from 2-4 at MashpeeHigh School. In addition, regular teen nights are held every week night from 6-8 and on Friday from 6-10:00.

Children can now ride the Regional Transit Authority’s Sealine bus route between Barnstable and Falmouth to the Club. The driver will drop them off at the Club door after stopping at Mashpee Commons. Children need to inform the bus driver when they board that they are going to the Boys & Girls Club.
