U.S. Constitution. Amend. I.

à How do I cite the US Constitution in MLA?

If you want to reference the First Amendment of the US Constitution in your paper, include the following entry on your Works Cited page:
U.S. Constitution. Amend. I.
The complementary parenthetical (in-text) citation is written like this: (US Const. Amend. I). You might also reference the U.S. Constitution in the sentence itself and only provide the amendment number in the parentheses at the end of the sentence, like this: (Amend. I). Note that you do not italicize the name of the document in your paper; I really don’t know why, but you don’t J.

à Note: Need more information?

Check out Doug Linder’s website. He provides LOTS of material; your in-text citation will just be: (Linder). If that’s not enough, use his “Links and Bibliography” page, where he provides even more sources. You will need to create Works Cited entries for whatever outside sources you use, of course.
