Principal Reports:

Dr. Walt Willet, Superintendent:

·  Breakfast and Dinners with Superintendent. First breakfast is October 5th.

·  New Volunteer Link to be filled out online annually and is mandatory

·  Community Conversation-Raising Resilient Kids in Tolland on Thursday October 15th

·  Digital Backpacks are in Superintendent Bulletin

Mr. Jim Dineen, Tolland Intermediate School:

·  Math in Focus Program is being used from Singapore Math

·  Second Year of the Writers Workshop

·  Benchmark Assessment for reading is underway

·  PBIS-Hawk Lessons with grade level assemblies on appropriate behaviors

·  Whole school assembly September 18 to recognize and celebrate students

·  Visitors will be required to leave licenses and car keys with office staff during time at the school

Mr. Tom Swanson, Birch Grove:

·  Principal Breakfasts are 1st Thursday of each month

·  Preschool Programs started

·  GROW cards being handed out to recognize great choices and positive behavior. 18,500 handed out last year

·  Around 700 Positive Official Referral calls made last year

·  Writing Workshops have been started

·  Benchmark Assessments focus on reading

·  Benefits of the Full Day Kindergarten are showing in 1st grade

·  Reading logs were due September 4th but can still hand in this week

·  Visitors will be required to leave licenses and car keys with office staff during time at the school

Teacher/Staff Reports:

Birch Grove-Mrs. Bednarz

·  Kindergarten – Learning routines; pre-assessments have been completed

·  1st grade – Math in Focus; reading review and groups starting

·  2nd grade – Beginning to write story structures; working on addition/subtraction and fact fluency

·  Library – Mrs. Berardino asked to have all reading logs handed in. They will be beginning to hand out books to students who read 25 books in summer reading.

·  Music – UConn interns are helping Mrs. Adams. They are working extra with the Preschoolers and Kindergarteners

·  Gym – Introduction to Soccer. Mr. J is the student teacher. Please remember to wear sneakers on gym day.

Tolland Intermediate School-Mrs. Babiec

·  3rd grade –Assemblies on appropriate behavior; Math in Focus going well

·  4th grade – New Math program is in place. Students will begin switching classes the end of September

·  5th grade – Math program is going well

Treasurer’s Report:

·  Beginning balance was $54,000 and ending balance is $49,720.

·  Funds were given to the Birch Grove library, Music, Technology at TIS, Mileage club at TIS, and Teacher Reimbursements

Room Parent:

·  Forms have been sent home and are due back 9/21. Great opportunity to volunteer, 2 people are picked to be Room Parents. Room Parent training will be provided.

Fundraisers:

·  Ice Cream Social- September 25th. Volunteers are needed. Preorder forms have been sent out.

·  Mileage Club- Starting 1st week in October. Volunteers are still needed.

·  Art to Remember – Art teachers are working with students on their pictures. Orders will be done in time for the holidays.

·  Jeannine’s – A new fundraiser. Information will be sent out soon.

·  Box Tops – Approximately $6,000 was raised. We were the top in the state for box tops.

·  Lyman Pies – Fundraiser will be in October

·  Little Shoppers - Will be in December at Birch Grove

·  Fall Book Fairs – TIS book fair will be in October and Birch Grove in December.

·  SCRIPS – Program where you can buy gift cards at face value and a percentage is given to the schools.

Cider Mill Road Race and Kids Fun Run:

·  Race will be held on October 5, 2015. Mr. Keithan will be there to warm-up the kids for the fun run.

Tolland Family Resource Center – Laurel Leibowitz:

·  New Preschool Enrichment Program for ages 3-5

·  Playgroups offered for ages birth – 5

·  Afterschool playgroups are available

·  Before and After school care

·  Adams Adventure is having a golf tournament 9/18 to help raise money

·  Music Together with Uncle Gerry at St. Matthews on Thursday 9/17 from 6-7

·  Volunteer form to help out the PTO is available online in the Digital Backpack and Facebook
