English and Honors Eighth Grade English 2016-2017

Dear Millikan Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to a new school year! Fasten your seatbelts and prepare yourself for the advanced, but incredibly fun and creative workload expected from your Eighth Grade student.

Students will be READING A LOT ! We will read several novels, short stories, plays, poems, and short non-fiction memoirs.

Students will also be WRITING A LOT ! Their writing responsibilities will include writing five-paragraph essays, business letters, book reports, poetry, journal entries, dialogues, short stories, literary analysis, editorials, and quite a few creative projects.

All this amazing work must be written neatly in dark blue or black ink. Typed work is preferred, but only if done in black ink.

ANY WORK DONE IN PENCIL WILL RECEIVE 1/2 OR NO CREDIT.

ALL LATE WORK MAY RECEIVE 1/2 CREDIT OR NO CREDIT.

Your son or daughter may say, “I don’t have any homework tonight.” If so, you may want to double check! Generally, students will have some kind of homework every night. It will be posted on my webpage so that it’s easy for parents to know what’s going on.

There will be a lot of writing in English. PRACTICE MAKES IMPROVEMENT! The more students do something correctly, the better they will become.

Here’s a list of suggested “must have” items to start the year off right!
