Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: This material will emit toxic fumes when burned, including Hydrogen Chloride and Carbon Monoxide. Vapors of the unburned product may also be hazardous. Contact with the fumes and vapors should be avoided by staying upwind and by wearing impervious clothing and full face mask.

Physical
Hazards / Incompatible Substances: Avoid strong oxidizers, strong acids, strong bases, heat and sources of ignition.
Hazardous Decomposition Products: Heating to decomposition will cause emission of acrid smoke and fumes of hydrogen chloride, phosphorous oxides and carbon oxides.
Health
Hazards / Routes of Exposure: DANGER! Poisonous if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through skin or eyes. Rapidly absorbed through skin. Repeated inhalation or skin contact may, without symptoms, progressively increase susceptibility to organophosphate insecticide poisoning.
Health Effects: May be fatal if absorbed through the eye or skin, is ingested or is inhaled. May produce acute cholinesterase depression.
Signs and Symptoms of Over Exposure: Acute cholinesterase depression may he evidenced by headache, nausea vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, excessive sweating, salivation and tearing, constricted pupils, blurred vision, tightness in chest, weakness, muscle twitching and confusion; in extreme cases, unconsciousness, convulsions and severe respiratory depression may occur.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Preexisting conditions that lower cholinesterase levels increase vulnerability to cholinesterase depression. These include: [for plasma] genetic cholinesterase deficiency; advanced liver disease; chronic alcoholism; malnutrition; dermatomyositis; existing toxicity from exposure to carbon disulfide; benzalkonium salts, organic mercury compounds, ciguatoxins or salanines; and [for RBC] hemolytic anemias.
LD50 [oral, rat]: 56 mg kg
LD50 [dermal, rabbit]: 205mg/kg
LC50 [inhalation, rat]: 140 mg/m3 [Ihr, whole body]
Emergency First Aid Procedures: DDVP IS A CHOLINESTERASE INHIBITOR. A DOCTOR SHOULD BE CONTACTED IN ALL CASES OF EXPO SURE TO DDVP AND ITS FORMULATIONS.
EYES: Rinse eyes for at least 15 minutes with clean water.
SKIN CONTACT: Remove contaminated clothing and wash contaminated skin with soap and water. SEE A PHYSICIAN.
INHALATION: Remove the person from the exposure. If not breathing give artificial respiration. CONTACTA PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY.
INGESTION: If swallowed, induce vomiting immediately by giving two glasses of water and sticking finger down throat. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. CALL A PHYSICIAN.
NOTE TO PHYSICIAN: This is an organophosphate insecticide. Do not wait for laboratory confirmation to treat patients with strong clinical evidence of poisoning. Establish airway and oxygenation. IV Atropine Sulfate is the antidote of choice. Moderately severe poisoning: use 0.42.0 mg in adults or 0.05 mg/kg in children. Repeat every 15 minutes until atropinization is achieved. Severe poisoning may require larger doses. Cholinergic toxicity may recur as atropinization wears off; monitor patient closely. Draw blood for RBC and plasma cholinesterase. In addition, pralidoxime [2PAM] is indicated during the first 36 hours in severe poisonings. Slow IV administration [no less than 2 minutes] of Igm in adults or20SOmg kg in children may be repeated in I to 2 hours if muscle weakness, twitching, and or respiratory depression persist. Avoid morphine, aminophylline, phenothiazines, reserpine, furosemide and ethacrynic acid. Bathe and shampoo contaminated skin and hair. If ingested, empty stomach; activated charcoal is useful to further limit absorption. If victim is alert, Syrup of Ipecac [2 tablespoons in adults, 1 tablespoon in small children] followed by water [2 glasses for adults, 1 glass for children] is indicated. If symptoms such as loss of gag reflex, convulsions, or unconsciousness occur before emesis, gastric lavage should be considered following intubation with a cuffed endotrachael tube.
Special
Protection
Information / Generally Applicable Protection: Use only with adequate ventilation. Keep away from heat, sparks and flames. Keep container in a cool place. Keep container tightly closed. Do not consume food, drink or tobacco in areas where they may become contaminated with this product. Keep away from children and pets.
Protective Clothing: Wear rubber gloves, clean impervious protective clothing, and goggles or face shield. Wear a NIOSH MSHA approved organic vapor/acid vapor respirator for protection against DDVP vapors or spray mist. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, or smoking.
Special
Precautions / Precautions to be taken in Handling and Storage: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Don't breathe the fumes. Keep this product away from food and drink. Wash thoroughly after working around DDVP.
Precautions to be taken in case of a Spill or Leak: NOTE: Review FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS before proceeding with cleanup. Use appropriate PERSONNEL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT during cleanup. With a spill, substitute a self contained breathing apparatus for the respirator. Evacuate personnel and thoroughly ventilate the area. Dike Spill. Prevent liquid from entering sewers, waterways or low areas. Soak up with clay, diatomaceous earth, sand, oil dry, Kitty Litter, or other absorbent material [not sawdust]. Shovel or sweep up and place in tightly closed containers. Decontaminate area and equipment with dilute alkali or ammonia [less then 5% ] solution and detergent. Flush area with water. Absorb water and dispose as a hazardous waste.
WASTE DISPOSAL PROCEDURES: Pesticide wastes are acutely hazardous. Improper disposal of excess pesticide, spray mixture or rinsate is a violation of Federal law. If these wastes cannot be disposed by use according to label instructions, contact your nearest Pesticide or Environmental Control Agency, or the Hazardous Waste representative at the nearest EPA regional office for guidance. Open dumping is prohibited.
CONTAINER DISPOSAL: Triple rinse [or equivalent]. Then offer for recycling or reconditioning, or puncture and dispose of in a sanitary landfill or incineration, or if allowed by State and local authorities, by burning. If burned stay out of the smoke.
ENVIROMENTAL HAZARDS: This product is toxic to fish, birds, and other wildlife. Keep out of any body of water. Do not contaminate water by cleaning of equipment or disposal of wastes.
