Applicant Quick Start Reference

Logon to eRICThe web URL for eRIC is
Two things are required in order to access eRIC:
  1. A valid Georgetown NetID
  2. eRIC user role – a valid NetID is required before a eRIC user role may be granted.
•Individuals currently listed on active IRB protocols have been given accounts automatically. You can log in without further action.
•New Accounts: You can apply for a new eRIC account by clicking “Registration” on the front page.

•My Inbox – Items requiring action to move an application form through the review process
•IRB – Lists all your IRB applications regardless of the current state
•Templates – Create templates for quick application creation
•Profile – Link to researcher profile where you can add default values for new application forms and authorize study coordinators and co-investigators to work on your submissions.
Ready for Submission – A place for PIs to find applications marked as “ready to submit” by their study coordinator.

Create – New study
When creating a new IRB application:
•The first page of the application form must be created and saved before the study record is created. Once a study reference is generated, the form can be saved and modified at any time until it is ready for submission.
•There is one human ethics application form for all IRBs at Georgetown. Answers to earlier questions will dynamically determine which future pages are presented for completion.
•Read the questions carefully; Clarifications are available from the IRB Staff at (202)687-1506
•Avoid using the internet back button. Use the navigation buttons within the application form to avoid browser errors.
•Text from external documents may be cut and pasted into the eRIC form.
•Study coordinators and co-investigators listed on the study may edit and view the form but only the Principal Investigator can submit the application. / Other Information

Email Notifications
•The Principal Investigator and study coordinator listed on the study will receive email notifications when changes or clarifications are requested from any of the approvers.
•Final approval will be communicated via email notice; links to all official letters/communications arealso available at any time within the Study Workspace
•All notifications are sent to the “Preferred Email Address” as defined in your account profile.
Pre-Submission Approvals
•All IRB submissions must go through a departmental approval process before the IRB receives the submission.
  • Applications from Georgetown University departments are reviewed by the department chair.
  • MedStar and GHUCCTS applications are reviewed by a single appointed director for each site.
•All investigators or individuals involved in the design, conduct or reporting of research must file Study Specific Disclosure Forms (SSDFs) within eRIC before a study application can be submitted. This will require all individuals listed in primary roles on the study to login to the system. If a user in such a role lacks a NetID, use section 10 to list them (users w/o NetID)
The IRB cannot process the submission until all pre-IRB approvals are granted and all disclosures are submitted.
