Dear 5th Grade Parents,
My name is Kim Berkey and I am very excited to be your child's 5th grade
teacher! I look forward to the many opportunities we will have this year to
grow and learn together.
This is my 21st year with Loudoun County Public Schools, and the fifth
school I’ve worked at in the county. I began my career at Catoctin Elem. as a
fourth grade teacher, then had the privilege of opening Evergreen Mill
Elementary as a fourth grade teacher. After spending several years
at Evergreen Mill teaching students at various grade levels, I moved into
administration.I served as the Assistant Principal at Leesburg Elementary
for five years. Then in January 2008, I was promoted to Principal and opened
Creighton's Corner Elementary in Brambleton. During my tenure there, the
school grew to well over 1,100 students and 100+ staff members! However,
with a busy young family, I decided to return to the classroom in part so I
could spend more time with my husband and three children.
Given my background, I bring a wide variety of experiences and knowledge
to the classroom. I strive to use that expertise to challenge students as they
work to reach their potential, both academically and socially.
I live here in Leesburg with my husband, two daughters, and son. My
husband is a fellow Hokie, and we've spent the last 25 years together. He is
former Secret Service, and now works as a detective for Fairfax County. Our
oldest child is sophomore at Loudoun County HS, the middle child is in 6th
grade at Simpson MS, and our youngest is in 3rd grade at Catoctin ES.
In my spare time (ha!), I serve as a PTSA chairman at LCHS and I
am also involved with the Daughters of the American Revolution. I have deep
family roots in Loudoun and Fairfax counties, dating back to the Jamestown
Settlement, so I am a bit of a history nerd. I look forward to learning more
about your child and working with both of you this year! If you would like to
know more about my background, it is available on my webpage.
Sincerely,
Kim Berkey
