MINUTES

  1. Call to Order and Introductions
  2. ASHRAE Code of Ethics was addressed.
  3. Old Business - Reports on Attainment of Long-Term Plan Objectives

  1. Education and Training Material– Joe Hofstetter
  2. Increased Engagement with other organizations utilizing the ALI energy management course
  3. Joe made progress with an organization in South Carolina.
  4. Oregon Professional Energy Managers are looking for speakers for training at one of the four forums (winter, spring, summer, and fall). Their focus is on collecting regional information from utilities. They are also addressing schools, government facilities, etc.
    Action Item: Anna will follow up with her organization’s board to have an ALI energy management course offered at one of the forums.
  5. Federal Utility Partnership Working Group (FUPWG): Every 6 months, a 1- to 2-day seminar is offered to all federal agencies, including utilities and energy services and facility management, to teach how to effectively manage energy resources.
    Action Item: Joe will follow up with Grace Gao to have an ALI energy management course offered at one of the seminars.
  6. Energy Exchange 2018 (GovEnergy), Aug. 21-23, 2018, in Cleveland, OH, is an opportunity.
    Action Item: Grace Gao and John Constantinide will find a contact for Joe Hofstetter/Karen Murray (ALI) to follow up with having an ALI energy management course presented at GovEnergy.
  7. APPA would be interested in having the energy management courses presented, perhaps at their national Annual Conference.
    Action Item: Anna will follow up with her contacts on TC 9.7 Educational Facilities
  8. ASHRAE Learning Institute Energy Management Opportunities for U.S. Federal Energy Awareness/Action Month
  9. ASHRAE can offer the energy management course in Atlanta to cater to DoD.
  10. ASHRAE has contacts within the DoD to have the course presented at installations.
  11. Action Item: John Constantinide will follow up with the Society of American Military Engineers Space Coast Post to see local interest in Florida.
  12. We may be able to present these courses at military academies.
  13. Supporting DL Candidates Presenting Energy Management Topics
  14. Eric Yang would like to be nominated as a DL.
    Action Item: John will assist and follow up.
  15. Discussion on distinguishing between when to use a DL presentation and an ALI course.
  16. Conference Programs– Annie Smith
  17. At the Winter Conference, 4 programs were sponsored/co-sponsored by TC 7.6, none associated with energy management. Annie will follow up with anyone who wants to speak on energy management.
  18. 2 people have reached out to Annie about the Houston conference relating to energy management. The deadline for Houston is on February 9.
  19. Program ideas:
  20. New Handbook Chapter 36 content
    Action Item: John Constantinide will look into putting together the program to include himself,Eric Yang, Annie Smith, or other chapter authors as speakers.
  21. Energy audits, building performance with occupant behavior
    Action Item: Eric Yang will try to get one or two speakers from MTG.OBB
  22. Decarbonization, reducing CO2 levels by 40% by 2030 and execution/goals at the local and state levels and with utilities
  23. Opportunities are available to collaborate with TC 9.7 Educational Facilities on program topics relating to energy management for educational facilities.
    Action Item: Anna Scott will follow up with Annie Smith on pursuing these opportunities.
  24. Building EQ presentation, data points from Energy Star and ASHRAE’s database
  25. The connection between energy management and IAQ. Can have speakers from ventilation committees (e.g. SSPC 62.1). ASHRAE Baltimore did a talk on IAQ and energy management.
  26. Debate between water reduction and centralization/district energy plants. Debate of centralization versus decentralization, including design strategies and decisions.
    Action Item: Grace Gao will follow up with this program idea.
  27. Smart meters/water meters, with case studies in the City of Madison and Brevard Public Schools. Looking for a third case study.
    Action Item: John Constantinide will follow up with Dick Pearson on this program idea and pursuing the third case study.
  28. HVAC Applications Handbook, Chapter 36– John Constantinide
  29. Revisions are completed. The Handbook Subcommittee voted to recommend that the full committee adopt the chapter revisions.
  30. The full committee will vote on approving the revisions on January 23.
  31. Water-Energy Nexus Research and Application of Research to ASHRAE Standards and Publications – Ricson Chude
  32. Collaborate with the TC 2.8 Water-Energy Nexus and Green Guide Subcommittees to formulate research projects that demonstrate stronger links between energy, water, and resource efficiency and conservation. Apply Research to.
  33. Next Steps:
  34. Have a person from TC 7.6 Energy Management Subcommittee attend those subcommittee meetings.
    Action item: Ricson Chude will attend TC 2.8 Water-Energy Nexus and Green Guide Subcommittee meetings.
  35. Utilize NBI research completed connecting power consumption with water usage.
  36. Take the literature search, highlight relevant reports, and draw conclusions to create recommendations for research to bring to the subcommittee in Houston.
    Action Item: Ricson Chude will lead this effort with the help Victor Rodriguez, Grace Gao, and Andy Cheung.

  2. Future Leadership of Subcommittee – John Constantinide
  3. Ricson Chude is recommended to be the Subcommittee Chair starting on July 1, 2018.
  4. As part of his transition, John Constantinide appointed Ricson Chude as the Subcommittee Vice Chair effective immediately.
  5. John Constantinide will complete the current term as Subcommittee Chair on June 30, 2018.
