SURGERY NEWS

  • Chloe Fazakerleyjoined the surgery.

Chloe is a Nurse Practitioner and joined our team recently to increase our clinicians. Chloe will be working alongside the Doctors and Jan mainly seeing acutely unwell patients who have been triaged for an on the day appointment.

  • Dr Helen Mackey is Retiring

Many of you will know that Dr Helen Mackay is retiring at the end of September and will therefore be leaving the Moat House. Dr Mackay has worked as a GP at the Moat House since January 1997 and has been a fantastic member of our team. She will be very much missed by us all. Dr Sutcliffe will be running the practice based diabetics clinic alongside Cathy Watkins from October 18.

  • Wendy Bridges joins and Natasha leaves our Reception team

Wendy joined our Reception team on 2 July and we hope that she enjoys a long and happy time as part of the Reception Team at The Moat House. Wendy replaces Natasha who has left our team due to family commitments. Natasha worked mainly in the Resource Centre and has been a great member of the team for several years. Good luck to Natasha in the future.

Early Bird Appointments

For many years the Doctors surgery has opened at 7:30 to offer Earlybird appointments to assist our patients who need to leave earlier for work. These have been a mixture of pre-bookable and turn up at the door / first come first served appointments.

As stated above, Dr Mackay leaves our team at the end of September which leaves us short of GP’s able to offer early bird appointments. In order to keep offering this service, we are required to alter the way it works.

The new service will commence on 1st October 2018 and will be

pre-bookable appointments only.

This revised service will offer GP appointments, General Nursing appointments and blood appointments. GP appointments may not be available every day at these times.

Please do not turn up at the door and ask to be seen as the early appointments will have been booked and you will be asked to return home and await a triaged phone call, which will happen after 8am. From 1st October 2018 there will be no appointments available if you turn up at the door asking to be seen.

We hope that this enhances the service by offering a wider range of appointment types.

This service will be reviewed again in April 2019 based on Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG requirements. There is a requirement for the local area to provide an extended hours service from October 2018. Therefore, from this date you may be able to be seen by a different GP at a local ‘hub’ rather than going to A&E. This service is still being devised and more details will follow when we know more…

Online Access

For registered patients it is possible to book appointments and order repeat medication online. You can also view prescribed medication, immunisation history and allergies which are held in your medical record. You are now also able to register to see results and coded records. To do this you need to complete an application form and visit the Surgery to register for the service. Two forms of documentation must be provided as evidence of identity and one of these must contain a photograph. Acceptable documents include passports, driving licence and a Bank statement (not a bill).

MEDICATIONS

You may have seen the recent adverts on television explaining why doctors may not issue you with antibiotics. The fact that our bodies are building immunity to antibiotics is a very serious health issue. Our Clinicians will only issue antibiotics if they feel it is clinically required and will make a difference to helping your body heal.

The Cambridge & Peterborough CCG have also issued directive to us to reduce the issue, on prescription, of over the counter medication. Therefore you may be advised to visit your local pharmacy to purchase drugs such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. There is a comprehensive list of medications they are asking us not to prescribe – this can be found at the surgery, for your information.

On the day appointments

Please remember that ALL on the day appointments need to be triaged by the duty doctor first. You will not be given an appointment if you come to the surgery asking for an appointment the same day. You will be placed onto the call back list and the duty doctor will call you to discuss your symptoms and decide on the best course of action.

Flu Sessions 2018

NHS England have licenced 2 different flu vaccinations this year, one for the 65 and overs and one for those 64 and younger.

The 65 and over vaccine is only being provided by one supplier and to be sure they can deliver the numbers needed they are staging our deliveries of the vaccine through September, October and November!

It is also complicated by the fact that we HAVE to ensure the correct vaccine is given to the correct age group. Therefore, we have to run our flu clinics a little differently this year and it gives us even less flexibility than usual.

Our first flu clinic is being held on 29th September this clinic will be the majority of our under 65 ‘at risk’ patients, although we are doing some 65 and over patients during the morning session only. Our second flu day is on 17th November and this will be the majority of our 65 and over patients.

Due to different delivery dates of both vaccines it may not be possible to invite all people from the same household to the same clinic if you fall into different age categories.

We will send your appointment letters as usual and we would appreciate it if you could make a concerted effort to remember to attend. We will call you, on the day, if you do not arrive within 10 minutes of your allotted time but will not contact you again after this. We have approximately 2500 patient to vaccinate and cannot spend time chasing you. If we haven’t heard from you within 3 weeks of your appointment date we will assume you know longer wish to receive the vaccine and offer it to someone else.

Moat House Dispensary

The Dispensary at Moat House can provide medication to patients who live more than 1 mile away from a chemist.

Louise & Pam provide an excellent, friendly service to our patients living in the villages around Warboys including Bury, Upwood, Wistow Old Hurst, Woodhurst and Broughton – amongst others.

They offer the following services:

  • If you visit the doctor they can dispense any medication prescribed at the time – as long as we have it in stock.
  • Advance ordering - each month when you pick up your medication leave your order for the following month and all you then need to do is remember to pick it up.

If you live more than 1 mile from a pharmacy there are a number of ways you can enquire about the services they offer.

  1. Next time you visit the surgery ask at reception
  2. E-mail Dispensary directly on

Many thanks for your continued support from the whole team
